The first tour of Southern Kuril Islands for Japanese tourist group has been postponed indefinitely, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday, according to Kyodo News.

The tour, scheduled for October 11-16, has been called off due to “Russia’s demand to reschedule the trip,” the Ministry said.

“In the future, the possibility of arranging the tour will be discussed with the parties related to it,” it added.

A group of 50 people, including tourists, diplomats, representatives of Japan’s tourism agency as well as doctors and interpreters, was due to head from the port of Nemuro on Hokkaido on October 11 and arrive on Kunashir on the same day. The tour program included visits to the Orthodox churches and museums on Kunashir and visits to hot springs and white cliffs on Iturup on October 14.

Russia’s Federal Agency for Tourism (Rosturizm) said on August 15 that following the maiden tour, regular tourist trips to the Southern Kuril Islands would be launched for the Japanese by 2020. The agency added that the project, aimed at boosting tourism to Russia, would also help bring the tourist flow between Japan and Russia to 400,000 by 2023.

Moscow and Tokyo continue consultations on joint economic activities on the Southern Kuril Islands, which have long been claimed by the two countries, leading to them never signing a peace treaty following World War 2. Russia and Japan consider joint economic activities on the islands as an important step towards signing a peace treaty.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed earlier this year to step up talks and economic activity in the region as a way of speeding up the conflict’s resolution. During a summit in June on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Osaka, the two leaders agreed to realize the first tourist visit this fall. In addition to tourism, waste reduction and greenhouse farming are also among joint economic projects.

. . . . .
Japan claims all of Russia belongs to Japan. They can back it up with their military if they can.

Well, you don't need to exaggerate on that. However, Japan does have territory dispute with all of its neighors; Russia, North Korea, South Korea, China and Taiwan.

Japan has no legitimate claim to the southern Kuril islands which are inhabited by Russian citizens since 1945. Yalta agreement handed the southern half of Sakhalin island and all of Kuril islands to Russia in exchange for Russia entering WW2.

The Soviet Union invaded those islands after Japan had announced its surrender on August 15th. The Soviet Union attacked the islands on August 18th. The Japanese defenders were caught completely by surprise having thought the war had ended, but they fought hard and gave the Soviets a rough beating before losing the battle by August 23rd. Because of that attack, Japan never agreed to a peace treaty with the Soviet Union because of illegal attack. If the Soviet Union wanted those islands, they should have attacked sooner. That is why Japan maintains the claim on them. If the Soviet Union had not attacked after the Japanese surrender, then there would be no island dispute between Japan and Russia today.

It is matter when you sign the capitulation, not when you say something. It was in September, 2. So Kuril lands were taken as war trothy and Russian sovereignty is 100% legal.

The Japanese emperor announced to all Japanese that the war had ended. Some areas still did not officially surrender yet such as General Yamashita in the Philippines. But for Japanese land itself, the war had ended. The Battle of Shumshu was carried out by the Soviet Union after the war had ended.

Who the hell signs papers on the same day war fighting stops anyway?

UN Charter became effective on 24 October 1945. Lands taken by military before 24 October 1945 is legal. For example Britain took Falkland islands from Argentina before 24 October 1945 so Argentina has no legitimate claim to Falkland islands. Russia took Karafuto perfecture before 24 October 1945. So it was legal conquest.Yet Japan claims the part of Sakhalin island south of 50th parallel still belongs to Japan. This claim has no legitimacy because Russia took the part of Sakhalin island south of 50th parallel before the UN charter became effective on 24 October 1945.

Those islands are Russia's, Japan will be further isolated in this region if it doesn't stop being a proxy for US here.

Your internal orders - it is only your business, they have no international legal power. Act of capitulation - is an international legal document. Besides many Japanese forces did not surrender and continue to fight.

WW2 ended in September, not in August.

The last bombing run by the US on Japan was on August 14th because the following day Japan surrendered. Russia attacked after Japan surrendered.

The great majority of fighting stopped. US bombing of Japan stopped. Russia made more advances after Japan officially surrendered. No more men had to be killed in the Battle of Shumshu. But SU had to attack and disrespect Japanese surrender instead of letting things be. So Japanese maintain the island dispute.

I said you will be further isolated in this region, north east Asia, you've made every single country in this region your enemy. I don't know US and India are East Asian countries.
