Mumbai, May 16:
After a major uproar from religious organizations and from various sections of society, now it is the turn of the
Sangh Parivar's frontal organisation for Muslims to protest against the ban on slaughter of bulls in Maharashtra.

The Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM), a wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has launched a campaign and started collecting signatures from the Muslim community on the beef ban.

The memorandum readied by MRM reads that thousands have been rendered without a job because of the beef ban and therefore demanding that it rehabilitate the stakeholders who have been affected by the ban.

MRM began the campaign on Friday outside a masjid in Byculla and collected 1,000 signatures by the end of the day.

"We demand that those who have been rendered unemployed by the ban should be rehabilitated. It is not just the Khatiks and Qureshis (butchers) who have lost their livelihood, but also shopkeepers and people who worked in these establishments. The government must conduct a survey and chalk out a plan to rehabilitate them," demanded Irfan Ali Peerzade, MRM Maharashtra co-convenor.

"There was no harm in allowing the culling of bulls. The Muslims feel persecuted as the decision goes against their interests. They already share an uneasy relationship with the Shiv Sena-BJP, and the fact that the assent for the law came immediately after the new government came to power has led to further simmering of their discontent," said the MRM leader.

There is a possibility after receiving the signatures, the government may rehabilitate them if needed, said a BJP leader

Makes sense...many people might have the bread and butter out of it..There should be rehabiliation plan for the affected ones..

Fully agreed the govt should provide them with another job or cancel the Ban

What nonsense. They can move to slaughtering buffaloes. After all buffaloes are not banned and I doubt the butcher will have difficulty slaughtering a buffalo as against slaughtering a bull. The meat shop keepers can sell buffalo meat or mutton or chicken. The level of stupidity in Indian seculars is beyond belief at times.

In my personal opinion Beef should not be banned

Indian cattle herders doesnt get proper price on par of International market price.

India’s exports are primarily to Vietnam and other Southeast Asian markets, as well as the Middle East.

2014 chilled/frozen beef export value per kilogram:

Canada $5.61
Australia $5.30
New Zealand $5.14
Brazil $4.72
India $3.21

Well then we should focus on getting the proper price not banning it

If slaughters are done under in legal ways under government then the catlle herders will get good price and even increases state revenues. System need to be place which will benefit both the cattle herders(AAM AADMI) and Government.

I think Government is negotiating regarding this.

All slaughter is done in legal way. Slaughter houses operate under govt licences. There are no meat farms in India. Cattle is not grown for meat. It is the individual farmers selling their few buffaloes which ends up at the slaughter house. It is only because beef is priced so cheap in India that it has taken the pole position as the biggest exporter of beef and displaced genuine cattle for beef growing nations. If Indian beef was to be priced the same as Canadian or New Zealand's beef, then you will find the market diminish a whole lot. Also consider this, if beef was selling at international rate in India, the beef eaters in India would soon wean off beef because it would be unaffordable for them.

Illegal slaughtering do take place which has benefitted the meat exporting companies and on that smuggling of cattles to neighboring countries have done damage to the government revenues.

UPDATE MARCH 2014: A vehicle late night loaded with the cattles, near our shelter area was obstructed by our staff. On investigation driver and cleaner accepted that the vehicle was going to the Arilova, the illegal slaughter place. The vehicle was loaded with pure breed of Indian cow, it included pregnant too with one progeny and her mother. All very healthy; but carried in a very cruel tight situation. After seizing the vehicle the alarming mafias with high influences tried to stop us, but we remained unperturbed with these reactions as we have faced it several times before.

It was a good attempt as we rescued the Indian cows which are now a rarity, we have already lost 70% of them and it is very shameful more because in India cows are religiously protected, and the diminishing population of cows showcases the hypocrisy going on in India. Later the cattles were given for adoption to the needy farmers under strict monitoring by the police and CRPI team.

That is a very tiny percent of the overall beef trade in India. Agreed though better policing and strict border controls is needed. The border settlement with Bangladesh will go a long way in helping with this matter.
