CHENNAI: Brazilian legend Ronaldinho, who has been approached by the Chennai Titans to play ISL, is apparently happy with the offer and is likely to sign it later this week.
Chennai Titans representatives met the World Cup winner's brother in Rome during the World Peace match on Monday and presented the offer to become the team's marquee player. According to team sources, the offer was consequently presented to the Ronaldinho and the 34-year-old has shown keen interest.
"We might have signed him in Rome itself had he been present. We will meet him again over the weekend and hopefully clinch the deal," the source said.
The meeting between Ronaldinho and Titans representatives will happen in Europe, but the promoters are tightlipped about the venue.
"The transfer deadline for Europe is over and he hasn't signed for any club. Things are looking bright for us," the source added.
Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan, the team's co-owner, was present in Rome to be a part of the meeting. One understands that he might be there when Ronaldinho finally signs for the Chennai team.
The talks began after Ronaldinho's negotiations with Brazilian club Palmeiras fell through.
Though Qatari and MLS clubs are showing keen interest to acquire the services of the Brazilian, it will be a surprise if he doesn't become a part of the Chennai outfit.
Anelka, Raul approached for Mumbai franchise?
Mumbai City FC have approached former French international Nicolas Anelka and Spain's second highest goal scorer Raul Gonzalez.
Representatives from the team, co-owned by Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor, have begun talks with agents of both players. The team, which will have to go with former Arsenal player Freddie Ljungberg if they fail to sign a top player, are open to options.
Anelka terminated his contract with West Bromich Albion towards the end of the Premier League season after being suspended for an anti-Semitic gesture during one of their games.
