Rolls-Royce has designed an unmanned cargo ship which in the future could be used to deliver exports across the world's oceans.

Rolls-Royce's vice president of innovation, engineering and technology, Oskar Levander, was quoted by the BBC saying "Now it is time to consider a road map to unmanned vessels of various types. Sometimes what was unthinkable yesterday is tomorrow's reality.

"Given that the technology is in place, is now the time to move some operations ashore? Is it better to have a crew of 20 sailing in a gale in the North Sea, or say five in a control room on shore?"

Should these ships become a reality, a total of 44% of expenses could be cut from operating cargo ships, according to industry consultant Moore Stephens LLP.

However, an overhaul of the regulatory regime would be required to grant permission for crewless ships to set sail, as it is currently illegal.

It is good as soon as sea is calm......but in case of storms or ice burgs........you must need human on board to take timely decisions.......as machines can't take decisions by own.

Trust me, it'd do better than humans. And one remotely control it if it's that necessary.
