Role of Indonesia during 1965 Indo-Pak war.

Just read in social media regarding PM Modi's visit to Indonesia. That Indonesia wanted to send/sent its navy to lay siege to Andaman in order to divert India from 1965 War. I searched and found a little mention in Quora. Not a bit more.

Can anyone put some more light/data on this?

Yes, but just to know history more. Not that I want to get angry with Indonesia or something like that. Planning to go to Bali Next Summer...

Doubt it. In fact really don't think so. There us absolutely no reason for Indonesia to invade Indian territory simply to back Pakistan up in a war that quite frankly lasted couple of weeks.

Such operations require long term planning and proposals which means that Indonesia would not have one day woken up and decided in a flurry of ummahism to invade India.

And let us not forget that Indonesia was under civil war at that with that 1965-66 purge.

I don't think there is anything 1% true in this. Indonesia may be a predominantly Muslim nation. But the first president Sukarno who was in office from 1945-1967 was a good friend of Mr. Nehru and he would have never allowed any such stupid idea. After all they were the founding fathers of the Non-aligned movement.

Indonesia may have claim over Andaman Nicobar and wants to grab the opportunity to occupy it but discarded the plans since war ends quite quickly.

The islands are 100-150km from Indonesian territory (bandar aceh) and 700km from India (orissa). Makes sense why the Indonesians would consider the islands an extension of their territory. Still when did European colonial drawn borders ever make sense.
