DHAKA: A road has been named after Bangladesh former president, also BNP founder late Ziaur Rahman in Chicago of USA.

Politician Alderman Joe Moore, who has been representing the 49th Ward of the City of Chicago, inaugurated the ‘Ziaur Rahman Way’ in Chicago of Illinois State on Sunday evening.

Earlier, an uncertainty was created regarding the event as US unit of Awami League staged protests and filed a case against Chicago city council.

On the other hand, BNP leaders and activists organized a celebration program after the inauguration of the road.

Low life Awami League abused office of Bangladesh Ambassador to prevent naming of Chicago street.

They must have confused Zia ur Rehman and Zia ul Haq! The latter was America's favorite kid on the block. So the road should have been just named 'Zia Road' to avoid confusion, and keep both BD and Pakistan happy!!! :cheesy:

You proved that an Indian can be the stupidest creature on this Earth. Stop bull shitting.

In the western democracy you can have a road named after the worst person of your country if a sizable population submits a request.

You BDs are so sterile you don't seem to know what humor is! Don't be too serious in life. Don't worry even if your country is heading South. Be happy! It'll do wonders for your blood pressure, and augment the number of existing brain cells too!

please don't tell me you consider Jinnah as the worst person in your country .

we have Gandhi street in Toronto.
when I was learning english my teacher gave me the best advise, try to think in english and when you read dont translate it in your mind, try to understand an English sentence as an English sentence.

there are not many roads named after jinnah in the world , i think this must be the only one in west or the entire world , now its obvious that he is not an international figure like gandhi , so your earlier post does make some sense now that roads can be named after unpopular people bcz of a request from a small minority of people in west .

It really does not matter what ghandi was, this thread is not about that. So don't pollute the discussion.

hasina will soon name the country after mujib at the way we are going...

Mujib who did not want Bangladesh independence. Mujib bahini which was created to loot and act as indian tool against Bangladeshis? Well, is there anything left for Awami League name? But the way Awami League thugs reacted on naming this street which is highly symbolic than any specific significance, is utterly exposed their cult mentality.

Ziaur Rahman was indeed a great leader. He also became a prominent figure in international affairs when he played an influential role for the reconciliation between Iran and Iraq after the war.

I think there is another road named after him in Ankara, 'Ziaur Rahman Caddesi'.
