Interesting question.

In south Indian mythology, Aiyo is the wife of Yama or Kaala, God of death.

It is apa shabda or an inauspicious word to be used. Which is why it is always used along with a positive word, like "Aiyo Rama".

Calling out Aiyo is a lamentation that says I am dying/dead. help me.

Not many people know this, not even the south Indians. People just use it without knowing its meaning. :P

Lolzz

@Jaggu
My common sense says that the word aiyyoo doesnt have any meaning as such.
Every language has such words.In marathi you might use a word like aiga, in hindi "abey", in english "ouch", all these words dont have any particular meaning. These words are used JLT.
