What's new

Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project receives sub Rs 4 per unit bids

The installed capacity is 28%, so total contribution to generation is going to be far less.

actually I think it's the opposite, It should be higher because most of those come from hydro and it's the most efficient source of electricity

Hydro doesn't always run either. what do you mean?

. .
power efficiencies are irrelevant, it's the capacity factor that's important.
Say you have a 500MW coal power plant that runs for 90 days then shuts down for 1 day for maintenance, then it has a capacity factor of 99% giving and an average output of 495MW.

Say you have 6000 MW solar farm with a capacity factor of 5%, then you have an average output of 300MW.
Because the output can vary widely, not all the electricity generated by solar/the wind is used, there is also an integration factor for this.

I get it what you are trying to say and I agree with you.

BTW what is the total installed capacity in Sri Lanka?

. . .
. . . . .
My household of 5, consumes about 1500 units (KwH) per month and we use gas for water heating and cooking.

your electricity consumption seems on the higher side

what percentage of people in Sri Lanka have access to electricity?
In India its just above 80%

With only a few remote communities in the island still off the grid, Sri Lanka has achieved around 98% electrification – a significant milestone, particularly when compared to other economics in South Asia: Nepal has an electrification rate of around 76% while Pakistan’s stands at 73%, according to the International Energy Agency.

congrats
It means you will be the first south asian country to achieve 100 percent access to electricity.

We will join you in next 2-3 years as the electrification in India is going at a very pace since modi.
