Hi,

A lot of poster are concerned about the speed of the JF 17---and I amongst a few others have stated many a times---that SPEED IS FOR VANITY---SENSORS AND WEAPONS ARE FOR SANITY

So---enjoy the article---click on the thread to read the complete article.

A new report details what aircraft features will be the most valuble in the dogfights of the future.

What can be seen can be destroyed, is an old battlefield proverb. And in the dogfight of the future, victory will go not to the swiftest jet, but the one with the best sensors.

That's where air combat is headed, according to a new study by the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments. And if that forecast is correct, then this is good news for the beleaguered F-35, which has been criticized for mediocre flying performance, but whose stealth and sensors may allow it to ambush Chinese and Russian aircraft.

Yea as the program ramps up we will see the critics of the F-35 disappear as for the programs before them. Canada hasn't even left the program, they are still paying in to development. All they're gonna do is waste millions of dollars and time on a competition, the conclusion of which is foregone.

By doing so they lose any benefit from a sole source contract.

you know the saying turn and burn. speed can get you out of a jam.

U.S still needs a Mig-31 class fighter
U.S really need a replacement for the F-111 Aardvark

to think the F-35 will be a jack of all trades fighter is silly.

you can't supplement speed and range for just better sensors.

How do you outrun a modern missile though? This isn't the Blackbird we're talking about.

All the speed in the world can't save you from danger if you are not aware of the danger in the first place.

so I would say speed isn't king, situational awareness is king.

more fast speed is way of escape from land defence system range in case of engaged..

it's possible. the point is to make a BVR missile to bleed off enough energy so it doesn't hit you.

now trying to escape the meteor missile would be nearly impossible since it has 3 times the no escape zone compared to the AIM-120 and I would assume R-77 Adder

and what IF anti-stealth is found ???

and what IF anti-stealth is found ???

Hi,

Same rules of engagement and disengagement apply---. You cannot do much with speed---.Mach 1.5 to mach 2.0 is apreety good speed.

And even though the F16 is capanble of mach2----there is too much distortion in the canopy at over mach 1.6

and what IF anti-stealth is found ???

All stealth means is that you must get closer to detect the aircraft, get a good track etc.

Any 'anti-stealth' technology means an unstealthy aircraft would be detected from even further out, so stealth is still at an advantage.

We have the classic example of F-104. The more speedy it was the less number of kills it had.

If you don't have speed you will be caught by cavalry units. When you have fired all your missiles and are empty handed

To me Speed goes hand in hand with strategies for Dog fight

Example:
Fight takes place between 6 F16 from Pure country , and 4 Units of Dirty country
The pilots use all the missiles

The 4 Jets for dirty country , start to run away like little cowards they are , little did they know

2 Jets started to tail gate them , and these were ones launched later then the initial 6 jets

So the 4 jets will try to run as fast as they can to reach home but they will be caught

Hi,

Okay---so how fast is fast---. How fast would they fly---at the end of their mission---they have very little fuel left---higher speeds---burn more fuel---so how does that work?

Luckily for Pakistan

AWACs will give ample notice, to jets , to scramble in support for any fighters in sky and not to mention our normal radar coverage.

Speed and endurance in air is a key element should not be ignored

Sir more speed means U need extra fuel to carry along and that makes aircraft more heavy which further means U are taking along extra load and causing difficulty for urself in air to air engagements then needing quite a hi thrust generating engine. Yes for the ground attack/bomber aircraft i strongly recommend they have the speed as they can carry more fuel along too and would just zoom away when deliver the package. Our Mirages esp non ROSE ones do come in this category if we consider them just bombers. When they put their throttle on max A/B, no one can catch them.
