There are more than 3% of Chinese population who follow some form of religion but the key phrase is "importance in their lives". It is only one aspect of their lives. Due to many functions of religious institutions being redundant due to a competent state, the importance of these institutions erodes, though still existing as a spiritual element for some. People practices it as a support function to their normal lives, they don't live for religion or its institutions, though some its values are good. Their lives are occupied by desire for uplifting their standard of living.Pew 2015 Global Attitude Survey: "The Importance of Religion in People's Life" by country.
