I'm not sure, if Ustra was used thousands of years ago but if it was than what were they using for after shave?

I know bread & butter.... but what the fork is beard combined with faith and what ever followed!

Beard has nothing to do with Islam... if some one think so, he is a jahil.

Ghunyat-ut-Talibeen has described ten natural temperaments that every man is meant to perform. These are;


- Rinsing mouth

- cleaning nose

- Using Miswak ( Brushing the teeth )

- Keeping beard

- Reducing moustaches

- Shaving armpit & public hair

- Using water in toilet

- Cutting nails

- Circumcision


One who is making fun of beard, is like one who is making fun of a person brushing his teeth or cutting his nails. How matured it would be and how childish it would be.

If a person doesn't brush his teeth, people ignore it. But when a person doesn't keep beard, people get ready to cut his throat. It happens when you have incomplete knowledge, and the knowledge you have, you're unaware of its nature. We need to understand that not all the sayings of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, and for that matter of all the prophets are orders. There are suggestions, recommendations and advices. When you take everything as an order, you make your life miserable and the life of others.

So prophets are the first people to perform and adopt those ten temperaments. In case of circumcision, prophets are circumcised by birth. It shows that keeping beard or shaving armpit aren't just Islamic things but things of all the religions.

When we say that keeping beard and reducing moustaches aren't orders but suggestions and recommendations, we see Umer R.A. having long moustache that he used to twist as well. We even see Lord Rama depicted with beard as well as without beard.

There's an opinion that beard can be shaved as war tactic. Economic front is as important as armed struggle. So if you are in marketing or any other field and your job demands certain appearance of you, you have the room to do so. There's no shame that you keep beard after retirement.

Remember in paradise men will be beardless. Having beard in this world is part of spiritual training. Keeping in mind the ultimate point will make our journey easy.
