There is no denying that the Islamic State is making every effort to recruit people in South Asia – in fact their attempts are not exclusive to the Middle East and South Asia. With the use of social media, they have the opportunity to reach people in almost every corner of the world, including the United States and Pakistan. This is alarming considering that number of adolescents in our respective countries who use social media, and those who possess impressionable minds that can be brainwashed.

Among those brainwashed are some women. House Foreign Affairs Committee member Rep. Ed Royce stated that, ““ISIS needs women, needs to control them, to establish its caliphate and give rise to the next generation of ISIS. And that is why ISIS is investing heavily in recruiting foreign women to join its ranks. And with each girl who becomes brainwashed, ISIS has a new poster child for its jihadi girl-power propaganda.”

It is not until they reach the ground that they are faced with reality. They lure these impressionable minds with promises of adventure and romance. However, violence and brutality that they face is unparalleled, they are subjugated to rape, trafficking, forced marriages, and even murdered.

So I ask you, how do we, as an international community, collectively put an end to this brainwashing? How can we, as friends and family members of these potential brainwashed recruits, make the aware of the brutality that awaits them?

May I pose a counter-question? Why would we want to stop this? Let those gullible enough to believe the falsehoods join them and pay the price. Their own strategy will turn out to be self-defeating, and it will cleanse the hidden dangers in civilized society.

Recent loss of leaders has pretty much made them in effective. I am still doubtful the recent news of Daesh wanting to attack that is it Daesh or some one else

you cant stop(as govt)adults from chosing their path. People believe IS is like hippy commune (without booze or drugs), let them experience it. It might become life changing experience. :p:
But as parents and teachers you have a duty to protect kids.

There's a technique called "future pacing" which lures an innocent individual into the recruitment trap. Future pacing is actually a marketing technique, now utilised by terrorist organisations. Usually the sellers use language such as “when you use this…” or “you will notice the difference…” that gives prospective customer the idea that the product is already purchased in order to create this acceptance in a future buyers mind. This also helps to create a connection between the buyer and the product. This might not be a guarantee of success, but it does increase the "probability of a sale" , in this case probability of joining the terrorist organisation.
If you observe closely most of recruitment is done through Twitter/FB and YT, these social networking sites and its tag features make it easy for the terrorist organisations like ISIS to track ppl who follow ISIS related news.

So how do they lure women into joining ISIS??
Future pacing helps them once again.
Extremists try to tempt girls to join their war with series of 'romantic' images of Islamic State.

They also post interviews of women married to ISIS warriors (ostensibly!!!), who urge other women to join the "cause".

@SarthakGanguly @ranjeet @Star Wars
Remember this??

*****
How do we prevent this???
Govt on its part might use some of these recruiting pages for intelligence gathering while other terrorist propaganda pages should be shut down immediately. I remember reporting a FB profile which was pro-Khalistan, but FB failed to take any action on that page. To remain sanguine I'm assuming the profile is being tracked now.
Parents also play an important role in this.
Perhaps the most significant indicator is the individuals social circle. Are they isolated and spend most of their time online? Do they tend to only associate with others who have similar radical views?
These are some red flags which no parent should ignore.

We can't.

Romanticizing any ideology is a standard procedure.

Ideology is what we can fight. Followers we can slay. But romanticism cannot be destroyed.
So I guess @Syed.Ali.Haider 'idea makes sense.

There is a limit that society cannot go beyond in insulating people from their own stupidity. As Ron White says, "You can't fix stupid".

We already provide them with civil society, rule of law, opportunities to benefit from their hard work, and the freedom to form their own views with open access to any and all sources.

If someone still wishes to believe in the romanticized version of utter horror being sold to them, I would suggest that we should let them do it.

So I guess @Syed.Ali.Haider 'idea makes sense.

I do not say that lightly, as I rationalize above.

Yeah Haider makes rational observations on this topic. That sounds correct to me. Time will tell.

Let the first couple of hundred jihadi warriors go out to do battle and get killed and raped and worse. Others will pay attention very quickly, I can guarantee it.

since the 21st modern educated society has no collective responsibilities towards other human beings lets open brothels instead of hospitals - let all the weak links die-

Mr. Ahmad,

Like always---against any insurgency---against any religious uprising---against any terrorist activity---time is against the state.

It is the goal and target of the leader of any such groups is to survive the initial onslaught and strikes against them. That used to be the first 60 to 180 days.

But as other things are changing at a lightening pace----these number of days shortened up for isis by a drastic margin. It was not there one day---and suddenly it existed in full glory out of nowhere---it came to the limelight with a bang right in front of everyone.

While the terrorist organizations had changed and become creative in their onslaught and appearance---the state has still lingered on with the belief of acting slowly and methodically and safely to counter the charge.

As the terrorists already know that----by looking at the deployment of the troops and assets f the state---they know upfront how much time they have to establish themselves---.

They also know about the divisions in the different political groups of the society and the terrorists use that time given to them to consolidate their position.

They also know how the leaders of certain countries would react under certain conditions---because of political problems at home---and that gives the terrorists a certain freedom and leeway to move around and consolidate their successes.

Now---once the terrorists are well settled---now they can increase their propaganda amongst those who are dissatisfied with their lives---people who want salvation---people who want religion---women who are not satisfied with their married lives---where husbands don't care about their women---neglected teenagers---or those coming under the spell of Chaudhry and others like him---people who are hunting for the past glory of the religion---criminals who want to justify their psychopathic activities in the name of the religion---these are all some recipes that the terrorist organizations use to get new recruits and fighters.

So---what can the state do Mr. Ahmad----it needs to change with the changing times---its strike capabilities need to change with the changing war---its reach needs to change at a lightening speed---its active and reactive forces need to carry out operations on a fastrak every time---it needs to be prepared to NIP THE PROBLEM IN THE BUD at a moments notice.

Because the terrorists have sympathizers coming in every shape form and religion. Islamic fundamentalist terrorists will have Christians participating as well as new converts---thus proving that radicals have a religion of their own and knows no boundaries and barriers---case in point---Adam Ghadan---.

The state cannot just simply step back from the pressure because there is political turmoil and not everyone is on board.

The issue is we can afford to turn a blind eye to the gullible teenagers and women falling for ISIS traps, till one of them is our own.
