Security of life is elusive term for girls of Bangladesh. People and society both always consider Girls as the thing of ignorance, negligence and barrier for society. In 1971, people of Bangladesh was acquired the independence by giving blood for being free and enjoying equality but women are deprived from the independence as far as now. The more Bangladesh is moving towards on the way of development, the more insecurity, physically abuse and social inequality are increasing of girls in society at the same speed. In the liberation war of 1971, around 3 lakh women dedicated their life for freedom but their dedication has not ensured their security of life, freedom and equality as far as now.
Dowries, social inequality, social and religious restriction for education are anathema of their everyday life which has been created restriction about developing themselves, achieving equal rights. Side by side, a new word adds as malediction for their life that is 'rape'. As the word "rape" is recognized as a curse for girls
Rate of sexual harassment and rape are increasing at alarming way in Bangladesh. For that girls and female student of societies are not able to move freely in outsides and many girls stopped to go school due to lacking security.. In 2011 the number of rapes was 603 but the amount of rape victims has increased to around 800 from 603 in 2014 within two years. . According to Bangladesh Mohila Parishad statistics, in 2016 - with 1,050 women and girls raped in total including 166 gang rape victims and 44 killed after being raped. The number of gang rapes was 199 in 2015. Side by side, sharply rise in child rape victims; in 2012 the number of child rape was only 86. Within two years victim of children has increase installation of speed. In 2015, total number of child was 280. Statistics of Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF) 2016 showed that 325 children were raped during January-September that year. More than one-third among victims was under 12 age children which is not only question of security but also it is alarming for the humanity.
The reasons of increasing rape in country are the lack of religious values, social norms and customs and the destruction of social bonds. Modern cultures not only engulf religious rules and social norms but also spoil culture of thousand year of Bangladesh which is threat for the future generation. One of the famous sociologist Emile Durkheim told about 'anomie of society' which will create due to lack of social bond and social integrity. Anomie of society means indiscipline and dysfunction of society. In modern society, people are highly inter-depended on each other and there have no social bond and same social norms. Because of 'anomie', increase social dysfunction in society. I think, Social inequality, physically abuse, rape and suicide are the problems of dysfunction in society. Moreover, abuse of internet and increased of pornography not only destroy morality of youth but also encourage them to perform unsocial activities.
A crime will increase at that time when the crime will indulge by law. If proper punishment or judgment will not be established against any crime, the crime will increase in a phases. Such as, rape is the crime which gets latitude by politics and corruption in our country. Last year, around 1500 cases were reported in court against rapists or the assaulters but we could not notice by enforcing of proper law to resolve the cases against rapists. Rapists or the assaulters of society are escape from crime by corruption. On other hand, victims of rape are increase day by day and sufferers always deprive from right judgment because they have no power of money. Most of the victims are from poor families and that is the reason as to why the victims cannot get right justice. As the criminals or the assaulters are above the status of the victims, they either settle the issue in exchange for money or frighten them away with their muscle power. The criminals also give threat of killing to victims family as to why the victims family did not show the dare to complain in police satiations against criminals.
Society and government have to take some steps reducing rate of rape in country. Social awareness is firstly needed for decreasing the rate of rape from society. Moreover, society should restrain our youth from abusing of modern technology and also have to raise awareness among them about the bad effects of abusing internet. Social sharing has to increase between members of society which help to build strong social bond.
Government should extend the helping hand for solving this problem. Pornography is another cause of increasing rape rate in country. So, government has to take proper steps closing the websites of pornography. Government should ensure security of girls in our society and also ensure rule of law against rapists or assaulters and have to ensure the highest punishment against this crime.
Otherwise, life security of girls in our country will be vulnerable. If we as society and government will fail to ensure social equality, freedom and life security for women, the dedication of women in liberation war in 1971 would be failed.
