Rafale Vs. Su-30MKI - The New Indian Dogfight

You may have funny idea about bureaucratic procedures inside ministries, remember India is not autocratic.

Maybe you should just read the article. Parrikar has simply ignored the IAF Chief's remarks. Parrikar can simply tell the IAF that Rafale is not on the table because they didn't agree with the terms, do you think IAF can disagree?

So, why he gave the statement inside Parliament against SU, that India's whole fleet is suffering from engine issues?
Why? Ask him. But I think he know how to play both sides.

.
And I think it's stupid. The Ruskies still get a lion's share of defence contracts- FGFA, MTA etc. are big deals on the table. They're acting like they want 100% market share.

Depends on the goodies in your bag, the Russians seem to bring a lot of them to this table while the French are counting the goodies they will get in 2020..........This was the deal for the French to lose, they sure are trying very hard to do just that......

Given thier economy any deal coming its way is a good one.. And the added pleasure of mocking the French :)

Because he is the Defence Minister of India, not anyone's pal.......

Yes they can disagree, because he cant make this decision alone, thats not how ministries works.

And if he has that much guts, and want to choose a plane with engine problem, the CAG would cut his throat in future.

Why? Ask him. But I think he know how to play both sides.
Nope, he gave a statement inside Parliament, he just cant lie for sake of playing on both sides.

Parrikar has the complete backing of the PM and as a top level leader is pretty much the complete boss of the ministry. Like few others have been. If he hadn't been, we would not even be discussing this topic, he would simply have gone by the IAF's wishes. There is far greater problem of CAG cutting throats with the Rafale deal considering that the pricing even begs the question whether or not Rafale was really the L1.

.
Well actually i was making a different point. Anyway it will be a fun to watch the Su become the real beast overtaking Rafale, here on defence.pk at east. :)

Your point stands valid if India rejects Rafale on "technical" grounds.

We still believe Rafale is better but not at "all" cost. We wont be buying even F22 for 400 million a piece.

Rafale is L1, its Parikar who bring back the Russians with his statement in Dec.

The Defence Minister backed by PM, what are you saying? So, the CAG cant do his ministries audit checks?

Rafale is L1 only in MRCA tender. India can go for direct purchase in govt to govt deal.

You haven't been reading. MoD now says that the cost escalation claimed by the French make it difficult to justify it's position as L1 because the offer by EF is lower than the increased price.......

That referred to the strength of Parrikar's position. CAG will carry out audits anyways. As I said the Rafale deal will pretty much get flagged up by CAG.

.
What is the reason that Rafale is being dumped now?
I think French themselves, (in an unlikely event, the deal doesn't go through). Its true that India is desperate for new fighters, but this government won't allow France to take advantage of this situation.

He has an option of staying silent inside the Parliament, he did not do so for a reason.

.
I did get your point but I'm not sure that the Rafale deal was ever linked with the Su30mki, the two of them having always seen as complementary, never in competition. Not till this change of Defence Minister did that matter ever come up. Unlikely that the Su30mki was seen as a lesser beast, pretty much beast No.1:D

Btw, the talk is of the Su35mki (or whatever -talk is cheap :azn:), so it is new super beast..........

:omghaha:
yes it will be now,,,,
my suggestion, wait for some planes to actually arrive and inducted in IAF before announcing THE BEST PLANE EVER MADE. This will help prevent any more changing. :cheesy:

i guess that is the reason that it is most sensible not to put all your weight behind one thing. IF one need to change that it makes the situation that much more embarrassing, at least for those who care about embarrassment.

Anyway, lets hope IAF and Indian MOD finally settle for something and go ahead with the procurement.
