Qatar pledged $500 million in aid to rebuild Sudan’s war-ravaged western region of Darfur, the official QNA news agency on Monday quoted a minister as saying.

“Qatar has pledged an amount of $500 million as grants and contributions for rebuilding Darfur,” said the gas-rich emirate’s minister of state for cabinet affairs, Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Mahmud.
In Feb. 2010, Qatar had promised to establish a bank with a capital of $1 billion to develop Darfur.
Britain on Sunday pledged at least £11 million ($16.5 million, 13 million euros) for Darfur annually over the next three years to help communities to grow food and to boost skills for employment.
The latest announcement came as delegates met in Doha for a second day for a conference aimed at endorsing a strategy to rebuild Darfur, where a decade-long conflict shocked the world with atrocities against civilians.

The conference, which drew condemnation from rebel groups still fighting the regime, was agreed under a July 2011 peace deal which Khartoum signed in the Qatari capital with an alliance of rebel splinter groups.

It seeks support for the six-year, $7.2 billion (5.5 billion euro) strategy to move Darfur away from food handouts and other emergency aid, and lay the foundation for lasting development through improved infrastructure.

The meeting comes 10 years after rebels rose up in the western Sudanese region to seek an end to what they said was the domination of power and wealth among the country’s Arab elites.
In response, government-backed Arab Janjaweed militia committed atrocities against civilians, prompting an arrest warrant for President Omar al-Bashir over alleged war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.

While the worst of the violence has long passed, clashes between rebels and the government continue, along with inter-Arab battles, kidnappings, carjacking and other crimes.
Some 1.4 million people have been displaced by the Darfur conflict.

Nice Qatari's! What about Syrian refugees? :/

That's the confusion I was talking to you about, on one hand they do allot of good things to some but on the other hand they do harm to others.

However, Qatar and GCC, especially KSA are expected to support countries hosting Syrian refugees, they get to share their responsibility along with the hosting countries. They helped out but it wasn't enough.

Man the whole international community should put their efforts to help ease on us a bit. KSA is not only dealing with Syria but also, Egypt, Yemen, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan. also the FSA on the other hand. :meeting:

But remember that hosting them doesn't automatically mean it's only our responsibility, it's not about the 160k in camps who don't get enough aid from outside the country but also the rest 400-600k in cities. That means 1/6 of Jordanian population are Syrian refugees, not to mention hundreds of thousands of foreign workers who already work/live in the country.

The Jordanians had enough on their plates already. The West won't sincerely provide the stuff the refugess need ,nor would they give arms to the F$A. It's you ,The other GCC members and Jordan working 24/7. Trust me, BlackEagle spoke about Jordanians complaining about the economic situation ,and you can't explain to them holistically the whole issue ,because they think their Govt are theives which is a joke.

I'm not defending the Jordinan Govt/Regime ,but I have been there and saw how things are being dealt with and I wouldn't blame them for the frustration.

Also, the Jordinans never had the luxury to deport Iraqis and others who came in ages ago.

What should KSA do is simple, supporting our allies and the Palstainans :D and been doing it quite well. We ,and the Qataris provide financial assistance to the Palestinian authorities while Jordan provides them with Medication (those in Gaza)

You hit the nail on the head man, people are ridiculous. I had a talk with a man who is supposed to be an educated one about five hours ago about the economic situation in the country, after refuting all his wacky claims, he started talking about an Ireland oil company alleged discovery of about 8 billion barrel reserves of oil in Northern Jordan that the regime refuse to invest in because it's afraid of Israel as it's into Israeli territory in the occupied Al-Golan, afterthen he started talking about a whole mountain of rare minerals which was turned into nature reserve to hide it from public and the world.. I was like someone shoot me in the head. I couldn't use reasoning and common sense with him so I left..

Why would they deport iraqis

No body talked about deporting them, Iraqis contributed considerably in Jordan development and growth.

I wish we had the resources and money to afford Syrians living but we don't have enough money nor resources, Jordan represented by king Abdullah looks like a beggar and that's just humiliating. Countries should offer help themselves not to wait for calls for urgent help as the country economy was on the verge of collapse.

Man, the core issue is not Syrian refugees but rather the main reason for the economic hardship was Egyptian gas illegal cut off beside other factors. We could have absorbed the refugee issue hit as we did with 1,5 million Iraqis if we hadn't have all other hits at the same time. I know that no one of us has anything to do with this but we are just talking.

Jordan has lots of Uranium. Australia is making hell of money out of Uranium. Jordan can be a provider of nuclear fuel for GCC reactors in the future.

Sometimes people say things at random -_- that's annoying I know. What I'm saying is that Jordan suffered from the situation in Syria a lot. Nowadays, the Govts don't encourage people to spend their holidays over there ,particularly the Westerns ,While most Arabs go there and see what the situation for the refugees look like.

Ireland oil company alleged discovery of about 8 billion barrel reserves of oil in Northern Jordan that the regime refuse to invest in because it's afraid of Israel as it's into Israeli territory in the occupied Al-Golan, afterthen he started talking about a whole mountain of rare minerals which was turned into nature reserve to hide it from public and the world.

I don't think The Jordian Government is naive much that drilling oil would provoke her neighbors or whatever. As I stated earlier in one of my posts today, I said there have been some patterns of environmental concerns within the Govt itself, I was told once by a Jordianian ecologist. If my memory serves me well I remember that Jordan and Israel reached an agreement back in 94, meaning that they must have at least intelligence/security cooperation ,and the Israelis have always pointed out that Jordan is a State that contributed to the peace here and there ,making such an argument null and void. " Not sure if the Israelis were telling the truth "

Regrading the natural resources, I think Jordan happens to have a decent amount of oil and a large amount of natural gas. But wait! Why should I abuse my natural resources to their fullest? I should make a use of them in near future and hoping to discover more. Instead, I still have plenty of options on the table ,from tourism and beyond. Hopefully soon the Jordanian economy will recover for the best!

Yes SIR!

I think we have huge reserves for a small country like Jordan and not for mass exportation, Jordan is about to start building a nuclear reactor and needs it's reserves uranium for running it, maybe it would cover part of GCC future needs but not all as they are planning to build about 20 reactors. I am optimistic though about the future as the oil shale will be produced in 2017, and the red-dead canal which would provide enough desalinated water for local consumption on a medium term as well as electricity, Iraqi oil pipeline which would save us 3 billion dollars, beside other investments and project which would multiply the GDP by 2025.

Who are the "Aussies"?, and why wouldn't you buy ours?

Jordan has enough of Uranium for 100 reactors for 100 years. Wiki the Uranium reserves.
Western companies said Jordan Uranium is not economically viable. I doubt their honesty.

Rio Tinto withdraws from uranium prospecting in southern Jordan

One of the largest mining companies in the world has withdrawn from uranium prospecting in the southern region, citing unsatisfactory initial exploration results, the Kingdom's state-run energy firm announced on Tuesday (Apr. 19). British-Australian firm Rio Tinto brought to an end to over a year of exploration in the Wadi Sahra Abyad area in the Southern Badia last month after deeming uranium deposits in the region as commercially unviable, a top executive at the Jordan Energy Resources Inc. (JERI) said. Despite the energy giant's withdrawal, JERI insists that the area deserves further study and has since taken over exploration activities in the area, JERI Director Fakhri Al Daghestani told reporters.
