This thread is about the PZL TS-11 Iskra, a training aircraft the IAF operated from 1975 to 2004.

Country Of Origin: Poland
Design: Tadeusz Sołtyk
Type:Tandem Seat,Advance Jet Trainer
-India brought a total of 50+26=76 Iskras.
-The order was placed in 1974 and deliveries started by 1975.
-The slow rate of production of HAL Kiran was among the reasons that led to the purchase of Iskras.
-The aircraft,along with the Kirans formed the back bone of IAF training.
-The aircraft had limitations in spinning,the spinning was restricted to just 1.
-The aircraft had a reliable design and engines.
-Cockpit layout was similar to that of MiG-21FL
-Was deployed during Kargil war in Anti-UAV role,armed with 57mm Rockets and 23mm gun. The HAL kirans were too lightly armed for the job with 7.62mm guns.
-Rate of accidents were low,with only 6 aircrafts completely written off (2 were caused by Polish pilots in India).4 crew members dead.
- 190,000 Hours of flying. 1,500 trainee pilots.
