Purchase of Fifteen Chinook Heavy-Lift Helicopters

In the proposal initiated by Indian Air Force (IAF) for procurement of 15 Heavy Lift Helicopters, M/s Boeing with Chinook Helicopter has emerged as the L1 Vendor. The cost of the Contract would depend upon outcome of the Contract negotiation with the L1 Vendor, which has not yet concluded.

The Field Evaluation Trials for these Helicopters conducted by the Indian Air Force have found them to be compliant with all the stated Air Staff Qualitative Requirements (ASQRs). Divulging further details in this regard may not be in the interest of National security.

This information was given by Defence Minister Shri AK Antony in a written reply to Shrimati Jaya Bachchanin Rajya Sabha today.

Are you sure India is getting the Combat Search and Rescue variant of the Chinook? I assume you know the difference between the CH-47 and the HH-47.

So its official now.

PS: Since when did Jaya Bachchan develop interest in IAF helicopters

whats the difference between HH47 & CH47????

:P HH47 never built till now as per wiki
On 9 November 2006, the HH-47, a new variant of the Chinook based on the MH-47G, was selected by the US Air Force as the winner of the Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR-X) competition. Four development HH-47s were to be built, with the first of 141 production aircraft planned to enter service in 2012.[69][70] However, in February 2007 the contract award was protested and the GAO ordered the CSAR-X project to be re-bid.[71] In February 2010, the US Air Force announced plans to replace aging HH-60G helicopters. The Air Force is deferring secondary combat search and rescue requirements that called for a larger helicopter.[72][73]
