LAHORE: Punjab Rangers have been called in the province to battle the extremist and the terrorist network responsible for terrorism in Punjab and across country.

The Punjab government, following the decision of the province’s apex committee, has requested the interior ministry to lend around 2,000 Rangers for the next 60 to 90 days to assist counter-terror operations in the province.

Rangers will conduct their operations based mainly on information passed on to the force by military intelligence sources.

The paramilitary troops may decide not to share this information with police officials to prevent it from being leaked, the sources said.

While they’re deployed in Punjab, the Rangers will have the power to detain or arrest anyone and will lodge FIRs with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), the sources added.

The Rangers will mainly focus on operations in South Punjab – particularly in Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan, two districts which the police have found tough to operate in – the sources said.

Apex committee meeting will be held in the coming days to streamline the anti-terror offensive in the Punjab.

If terrorist move to other parts of Punjab from South, then what will rangers do? Ask permission from Cm Shahbaz again?

. .
Rangers have learned not to trust the Politicians be it in Sindh or Punjab!
Good Decision Lads..

.
Wait for screams from Punjab just like we heard from Karachi.

Who said Gen Bajwa was soft?

. .
Correct decision. Cant trust the Punjab Police. They are worse than the criminals.

Sure. Don't share news with them. Treat them as second equal.

You are beyond reproach and holier than thou. You have done such a good job on the western border.

BTW please enlighten me how do you plan to prosecute them. or do you now plan to diversify into filing charge sheets and presenting challan to courts. Please be reasonable as this is just PR hype. Nothing else.

If this is true, it may come out to be one of the most absurd decisions made in this war against extremism and terrorism. We must understand the difference of Rangers engagement into public domain in Sindh and Punjab. In Sindh, Rangers have been involved on this side of law enforcement for over two decades and the Punjab Rangers don't have that under their belt. Thou regular postings and transfers within Rangers helps, but we all know when you get posted to Sindh, there is no coming back. You retire from there. (90% of the cases).

The police in Punjab has made quite a lot of achievements lately and must be recognized. Their expertise and local know-how needs to be leveraged and benefited from. Police and specially its CTD has made quite a lot of success and their knowledge must be used for the benefit of the cause. They should work shoulder to shoulder with the Police and must ensure that we do not make any city of Punjab look something like Karachi and how it is affected by the long drawn engagement and deployment of Rangers.

.
Well done! Makes complete sense as the Punjab and Sindh police are rag tag extortion militias hired by the corrupt politicians.

.
Yes, PA & Intel agencies should not share anything with ganja league wh*re police & nothing with corrupt & treacherous politicians.
