PUNE: A 20-year-old engineering student was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly posting on a social networking site on May 2 that he would "kill around 3,000 Muslims".

The Bund Garden police here said Amitsinh Kate, a resident of Bibvewadi, was taken into custody after the cyber crime cell of the Pune crime branch registered a complaint against him under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.

Police said Kate is a first-year civil engineering student in a city-based college. His post drew much attention on the social networking site following which several Muslims urged the police to take action against him.

Police commissioner K K Pathak examined the post and ordered the cyber crime cell to register a case against Kate. Pathak also held a meeting with senior police officials to ensure that the incident did not create a law-and-order situation in the city.

Inspector Satish Nikam (crime) of the Bund Garden police station, who is investigating the case, said Kate had claimed in his post that he was the vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party's Yuva Morcha. "However, police investigations have revealed that he is not associated with the BJP. The party leaders also told the police that Kate was neither a party activist nor an office-bearer," he said.

Nikam said that Kate told the police that he put up the objectionable post after watching some video clips on the Godhra riots on the internet. "Kate regretted the post and deleted it. However, excerpts of the post were shared by people who follow him on the social networking site. He was arrested after our investigations confirmed his involvement in the crime," he added.

Kate has been booked under sections 153(a) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and 295(a) (deliberate and malicious act intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code and section 66(f) (punishment for cyber terrorism) of the IT Act.

He is extremist.
His words are enough to check his mentality and demands treatment.

No more than what is said by many on this forum. Random posts with no evidence of a real threat should not be exaggerated in importance.

How about starting with your own revered philanthropist, General Hafiz Saeed who tells his yahoos at every congregation he addresses to hang the evil infidel Hindus as it is the duty of every Muslim to do so? But you don't comment on his bluster and rants, not even bat an eye? Hypocrisy?

Oh well, that's par for the course where your douchebag mullahs and Saeeds are concerned, but dare anyone say anything about a Muslim in India? That's blasphemy, right?

Anyway, what that fellow wrote on his post about killing Muslims is unacceptable.

We still cant accept his post though. Not in a time when tensions were running high in western UP and it would have been good to stop whipping up passions in a abnormal time
