PTI moves ECP: ‘N’ campaign at ‘state expense’

The Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf has approached the Election Commission of Pakistan against the Punjab government alleging the latter is using state machinery and resources for PML-N election campaign.

“I am writing on behalf of the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf to protest against misuse of state resources by the Punjab government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. I also want to bring to your notice the misconduct of government officials who are using their official positions on behalf of the PML-N,” PTI Information Secretary Shafqat Mahmood said in a communiqué sent to the ECP and released to the media here on Sunday.

The letter alleges that both the federal and provincial governments have greatly enhanced their advertising budgets and are making full use of the amount to propagate their party line, with the Punjab government crossing all limits of official propriety.

It quotes as an example of half-page advertisements in newspapers daily placed by the Punjab government extolling its achievements.

“On most of these ads a picture of Mr. Nawaz Sharif is displayed prominently. (While) as you are aware, he has no official designation in the Punjab government and has no right to appear in its ads.” Similarly, the letter says, laptops bought and paid for by the provincial government are being distributed by Hamza Sharif and Maryam Nawaz although both do not enjoy any official position in the official setup.

“The display of Nawaz Sharif’s picture in government advertisements and prominent role of Sharif family members in official events is a misuse of their position to further political aims of their party. In an election year, such a conduct becomes even more objectionable.”

Requesting the chief election commissioner to take notice and initiate steps to ensure that this activity comes to a stop, the PTI also complains against the conduct of some government officials working with the provincial government.

The PTI has been informed by “media houses and newspaper editors that a Punjab media team member, who is a top government employee, regularly tries to influence PTI’s media coverage.”

The party fears that if the practice goes unchecked, this ‘disease’ will spread to other public servants.

Saying this will be a complete negation of the code of conduct, the PTI has requested the CEC to proceed against all government officials directly or indirectly taking part in politics.

Your observation is flawed and biased, as in any talk show, when there are representatives of PPP, PMLN and PTI we see what happens, when PTI criticize PPP, the PMLN guy jumps in to rescue, when PTI criticize PMLN, the PPP guys comes in to rescue, and then both PPP and PMLN join hands to criticize PTI. it happens in every talk show.. you can refute it as you may have a soft corner for nawaz league.

when Nawaz is dead or killed in order to save democracy, sure why not, go for it... use his posters like they use in BISP

as far as MQM is concern, hide collection was done by khidmat-e-khalk foundation, if they are social work wing of MQM, they have the right to do it, it wasn't on state money to begun with !!

and above all what kind of excuse is this, do you agree its wrong or not? if you think pmln is doing wrong, then simply accept it, at the end of the day,its our money being used... hello... our money !!

he is acknowledging the wrong, the very wrong thats going on for a long time and now really its getting boring. he does nto see anything wrong in Sind and Baluchistan and NWFP or does he not include those provinces in Pakistan. Does he want to be the prime minister of Punjab!!!!!

Because they are apparently not tasked to attack other parties

I mean, there are about 5-10 people being killed in Karachi, we all know the circumstances in K-P, Balochistan and Fata and yet you will hardly hear him criticising these parties or when he does he will use very soft language for once and move on. Whereas he will want to criticise PML-N if the Chief Minister goes to the toilet for 2 times a day claiming it's a waste of resources and etc.

No idea what is wrong with PTI, they criticise PML-N for 5-10 times everyday but very soft for other parties or national issues.

Having said that I do agree with this PTI's move to drag PML-N to ECP for excessive publication of posters and banners and very shameful of PML-N if they are publishing the pictures of Nawaz Sharif and family for political purposes. Such a waste of public money and very shameful act of PML-N indeed

What is wrong with that? as long as they are not trying to gain political mileage out of it?

I mean it is obviously not right to ask for votes while distributing laptops but forget about the logic of personal gains and just Laptops and Scholarships... I think every political party is elected for public relief and if the students are getting laptop it is a wonderful action for any political party.

Don't tell me if PTI or your favourite political party had won the elections and Imran Khan raised the education budget or wished to increase the number of scholarships in the country - You would object to that?

This was purely for political mileage (If CM couldn't do it he could have sent a serving bureaucrat under him to do this job?). I am certainly entitled to ask why it dawned upon the CM punjab to distribute scholarships when the country is just 2-3 months away from an Interim setup ...why didn't he do that before...? ....

are you calling Imran munafiq, he is the one doing taun taun. I would call him khisyani bili nochey PML-N. I think Imran by now have lodged at least 1000 complains and pettitions problem he never followed even one to a conclusion. maybe he doesnt follow anything which puts the lives of PTIers in danger like Wazirstan rally.
what about your money in PPPs bank accounts or did you write it off for sharing later.
