PTI expels 20 lawmakers over ‘horse-trading’ in Senate polls

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chief Imran Khan on Wednesday revealed the names of lawmakers who sold votes during the Senate elections.

The PTI chief, who was addressing a press conference in Islamabad said, nobody took any action on the buying and selling of votes during the Senate election. Imran claimed that between 30-40 votes were sold in the Senate election by others party too.

Nargis Ali, Dina Naz, Nagina Khan, Naseem Hayat, and Fauzia Bibi were named as the female PTI lawmakers who had traded votes.

Among the male PTI lawmakers who were found guilty of trading votes by PTI's investigation committee were Sardar Idrees, Obaid Mayar, Zahid Duranni, Abdul Haq, Qurban Khan, Amjid Afridi, Javed Naseem, Yasin Khali, Faisal Zaman, and Sami Alizayi.

The PTI chief also named Mairaj Humayun from QWP,Khatoon Bibi and Babar Saleem from Awami Jamhoori Ittehad, and Wajeeh uz Zaman from PML-N for being involved in trading votes during the elections of the Upper House of the Parliament.

A charge sheetwill be issued to the lawmakers to seek anexplanation of their actions, Imran said, adding that their names will also be sent to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

"The investigation committee will give proofs to NAB on how these lawmakers were bribed," the PTI chief said, challenging other parties to oust their corrupt members.

“Nobody took any action on the buying and selling of votes during the Senate election,” he said while addressing press conference in Islamabad.

“I felicitate the party members who didn’t sell their loyalties in the elections,” he was quoted as saying.

“Everyone knows loyalties are sold in the elections but no institution initiates action against them. We will send the names of these members to NAB for an investigation if they won’t respond to the show cause notices,” he added.

“We are expelling those from the party who sold their consciences and loyalties.”

According to an internal party probe, up to Rs40 million were offered to buy their votes in the last month’s election, said the PTI chief.

By furnishing explanation in response to show-cause notices, the members can avoid being expelled from the party.

The party later took to Twitter to name all those found involved in ‘horse-trading’.
