Protests erupt in Iran over gasoline price hike

Looking at the video where the "protesters" were destroying properties, then it is obvious this isn't a genuine protests; this looks like a staged attack, where people are setup to create sedition. It looks to me this was a staged colored revolution.
Maximum punishment should be given to these gangsters and thugs.

IRGC commander warns Iran neighbors against 'acts of mischief'

Certain neighbors of Iran were involved in acts of mischief during recent riots that followed the government's decision to increase gasoline price, says a senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), warning those countries against their "mischievous" behavior toward the Islamic Republic.

The Iranian government raised gasoline prices last week in order to moderate the national consumption rate, which stands at 110 million liters per day, 40 million liters above the maximum daily domestic requirement.

The move prompted some peaceful protests, but riotous elements, taking advantage of the circumstances, quickly entered the scene, destroying public property, setting banks and gas stations ablaze among other facilities, and opening fire on people and security forces.

Speaking to a group of female Basij members in Tehran on Sunday, the IRGC’s second-in-command, Brigadier General Ali Fadavi, said, “During recent riots, some of our neighbors acted against [good] neighborly relations and the stipulations of Islam and committed acts of mischief,” adding, “We advise [those] neighbors to repent.”

In reaction to the recent events in Iran, the White House has expressed its support for what it claims was a popular movement.

The IRGC commander slammed Washington's attitude in that regard, highlighting the traces of wickedness left by the US and its 'stooges' in the days of unrest and vandalism in Iran.

Fadavi said authorities in Washington, London and Paris will never change their behavior vis-à-vis Iran and, like the past 40 years, they will continue their acts of mischief. "However, we will defeat them as usual."

He added that Iran will respond in kind to enemies' moves in the recent riots, noting, "If we wanted to make use of various capabilities of the Islamic Revolution, we were able to meddle with the most trivial issues of any country, but we will not do so because Islam does not allow that."

The IRGC issued a statement on November 18 on the recent riots in some Iranian cities, warning that it will firmly deal with any measure aimed at sowing the seeds of insecurity in the country.

Commending the insight and smartness of the Iranian people, who draw a clear line between their peaceful protests and acts of rioting, the IRGC’s statement said, “Continuation of any measure, which would foment insecurity, and all actions targeting the calm and tranquility in the society will be dealt with decisively.”

Iranian First Vice President Es'haq Jahangiri on Saturday warned "certain regional countries" that they will be in trouble if they are proven to have been involved in the recent riots.

"Certain regional countries should know that if clues are found that show they intervened to create unrest inside Iran, they will see no peaceful time in the region," Jahangiri said.

I've found Iraqi people among the best people in Iran.
Who would you say are "among the worst" people in Iran? I'm asking because i'm curious to know which nationalities are present in Iran and the perceptions between those groups and Iranians in Iran. must be interesting.

US , Sweden and other countries give hundreds of thousands of dollars to Uganda each year to fight poverty , aids and other stuff.

US alone gives Uganda something like 970 million $ per year.

I looked at the definition of " bulling " and i don't think giving someone millions of dollars come under that definition.

What does come under the definition of " bulling " is executing people for their sexual tendencies , forcing woman to wear hijab under threats of punishment and throwing the lawyers that are brave enough to defend them , to prison as .

Like this good woman , Nasrin Sotoudeh , who was sentenced to 38 years in prison and 148 lashes only for defending woman who did not wear the hijab.

You seem to like to point your finger at the west , but for the last 40 years the ones that are really " bullying " the Iranian people are the those mullahs themselves.

Really ? Spying you say.

To be exact she was charged with spreading propaganda , espionage and insulting the supreme leader.

Rather a strange occurrence wont you say ? A spy taking the time and risk to come out and insult the supreme leader. Have not heard of many spys who got arrested for spying AND insulting some one.

You know the only reason she was arrested was for being brave enough to be willing to defend as a lawyer , those woman that did not wear the Hijab and other human rights activist.

The mullahs preferred they would not be represented at all , so as thanks for her brave efforts , the mullahs sentenced their lawyer , Nasrin Sotoudeh , to 38 years in prison and 146 lashes.

Iran says hundreds of banks were torched in 'vast' unrest " plot "

Iran’s top leader on Wednesday denounced an outbreak of deadly unrest as a “very dangerous conspiracy” as authorities reported about 731 banks and 140 government sites had been torched in the disturbances.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the protests amounted to a plot that Iranians had defeated, referring to the worst anti-government unrest in Iran since authorities put down demonstrations against election fraud in 2009.

The disturbances began on Nov. 15 after the announcement of gasoline price hikes, but quickly turned political, with protesters demanding top leaders step down.

In response, the government has blamed “thugs” linked to exiles and the United States, Israel and Saudi Arabia for stirring up the street unrest.

“A deep, vast and very dangerous conspiracy that a lot of money had been spent on ... was destroyed by the people,” Khamenei said in a meeting with members of the paramilitary Basij force which took part in the crackdown against protests, according to his official website.

Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli meanwhile said about 731 banks and 140 government sites were torched in the unrest.

More than 50 bases used by security forces were attacked and approximately 70 gas stations were also burned, he said, in remarks published by the official IRNA news agency, without specifying where the attacks took place.

SANCTIONS
According to IRNA, Rahmani Fazli also said up to 200,000 people took part nationwide in the unrest.

London-based Amnesty International said on Monday it had recorded at least 143 protesters killed in the protests.

Iran has rejected Amnesty’s death toll. It says several people, including members of the security forces, were killed and more than 1,000 people arrested. The Center for Human Rights in Iran, a New York-based advocacy group, said the number of arrests was probably closer to 4,000.

The protests took place as new U.S. sanctions imposed this year cut off nearly all of Iran’s oil exports, and as similar protest movements erupted in Iraq and Lebanon against governments that include heavily armed pro-Iran factions.

There has been about a 20 million liter drop in daily gasoline consumption since the price hike, Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh said, the semi-official ISNA news agency reported.

The struggle of ordinary Iranians to make ends meet has become harder since last year when U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from Tehran’s nuclear deal with world powers and reimposed sanctions on the country.

Combined with the rising inflation, growing unemployment, a slump in the rial and state corruption, Washington’s “maximum pressure” has caused Iran’s economy to deteriorate.

The government said the gasoline price rises of as much as 50% aim to raise around $2.55 billion a year for extra subsidies to 18 million families struggling on low incomes. The monthly cash payments are set at just 550,000 rials ($4.44) per person.
