Taipei, March 26 (CNA) The Taipei District Prosecutors Office on Thursday said that it will launch an investigation into suspected irregularity in the importation of Japanese food products from areas contaminated by radiation from the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster.

A prosecutor has been assigned to lead the probe into suspected wrongdoing by importers. Investigators will also determine whether the violation stems from Japan.

Following the 2011 nuclear disaster, food products from 5 Japanese prefectures -- Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, and Chiba -- have been barred from entering Taiwan.

However, recent reports have indicated that importers may have tampered with labels to make the food products appear to have been produced in Tokyo, Osaka or other areas that were not affected by the disaster.

The New Taipei City Public Health Department on Tuesday announced that they had found tampered labels on 70 food products, including soy sauce, beverages and snacks imported by four companies. Department officials said that the Chinese language information on the labels of the food products did not match what is stated in Japanese

Japan should know that the rest of the world is not ok with consuming radioactive foods.

This shows that even honorable japanese business men are doing scrupulous things behind the scene, but they do not get the same amount of coverage as Chinese business men.
