Proposed KEZ set to get licence, will host heavy industries like car and steel manufacturing plants

they wont. the main attraction for assembling plants is the size of local market. They wont come unless the local demend is stong enough to use up their products. They will consider as an extra reward to export excess units to foreign countries. coz every countries can offer what BD offer for plants something like tax exemption. for instance , I dont what BD can offer. Myanmar give exemption in many area for vehicle assemblers while raising tax for importer.
Now Myanmar already hosted more than 13 vehicles assembling plants in their SEZ including Nissan , Suzuki , Ford , Hyundai , KIA , Daewoo etc. Myanmar ,used to be a top market for used cars and imported more than 500k uesd cars within 5 years, now encouraging in local production and import also dropped ( only few thousand as of 2018 ). So all BD need to do is to make some changes in policies and open for the local market.
Private cars local or foreign are discouraged.. Too much congestion specially in Dhaka. In outside the roads are only getting expanded recently

Vehicle ownership depends not only on the per capita GDP but also on the length of roads in the country and the necessity of the people. A small country with an insufficient length of roads cannot support individually owned cars but is good for mass transit like metro trains and a systematic bus transit within the big cities. Dhaka even lacks space for parking in the apartment blocks and houses. There are no underground parking facilities for car parking.

For other areas buses, trains, auto rickshaws, motorcycles are supposed to suffice for the next few decades. India and Pakistan are very big countries with less population density. So, roads there can be enlarged year after year. In the case of BD, however, things may change gradually once the metro rail and expressway are put into place. This will cause a reduction in the number of three-wheelers and Rickshaws that will result in fewer congestions on the roads.

Could it be another twenty years to happen? Twenty years may be too short considering the govt people think about and work for the country. They behave as if they are the Feudal Lords.

India is much crowded than China and Indonesia.

Btw, Bangladesh is not that small, but not that large too, you got a populous country with not too large land mass in which you should get the incentive to build toll way systems roads and railroads with large passangerships traffic. Albeit land prices quite expensive compared to country with large area like China and Indonesia but with the still low income in most areas of Bangladesh you should build all the necessary infrastructure right now or else they will got more expensive in near future

true... agreed with your points here... tbh car making industries used to exist in bd... ford and chevy's used to be produced here.... now only mitsubishi, proton and nissan have local plants...
what bd still has compared to other offerings is cheap labors.... now wether they're skilled or not (for car assembly) is a topic of another day

Chinese Bus/truck manufacturer like Foton have now set up assembly partners locally. Here is a selection of their buses in various sizes to be assembled from CKD kits.

I was getting the impression new car sales in Burma is in the 100s of thousands. In reality it is just a few thousands.

I don't think the Bangladesh Govt should not lower taxes on cars yet as the roads in Dhaka are beyond over crowded. Hopefully all the new projects will ease the traffic situation.
but u know Dhaka is just one of many emerging cities in BD. but Ur gov is imposing a huge tax on vehicle in order to reduce traffic congestion in Dhaka. so about people who live in other cities ? still have to pay vehicle + a huge tax or other policies regarding with them ? i'm not clear that part.

BD does not want mass car ownership anywhere in BD.

Already government is planning Metro in Chittagong and railway lines are slowly being upgraded/built to connect the major cities.

Why not? Kind of expensive at crores of taka - but sure.

I see them in the US all the time, in use by touring bands, musicians, celebrities....

I also think Shahrukh khan and Salman Khan have some....

RV cabinets, beds etc. are not available locally - you have to import and custom fit them, like they do in India.

Bangladeshi government discourage car ownership due to traffic congestion. It has nothing to do with GDP.
Why not use some of that countless billions to decongest the traffic? Build roads instead of fishing ponds everywhere.

A sorry state of affairs it is that all are to be concerned over the bad state of roads and highways across the country. It is because all of them have to face similar tremendous trouble countrywide while making a journey through these precarious roads and highways. Crumbling roads and highways in all most all the districts across the country have become serious deathtraps for traveling commuters as their maintenance remains elusive. The vehicles carrying tens of thousands of passengers or huge volume of goods everyday run from one corner to another throughout the country on these routes. Unfortunately, these vehicles are to meet breakdowns or accidents because of the worsening conditions of the country’s national roadways. It is a common place experience that the passengers often fail to reach their destinations on time as vehicles crawl along these decrepit roads and highways. Moreover, such dilapidated roads and highways also seriously damage the plying vehicles shortening their life span that fortunately escape accidents.
It is frequently observed that the carelessly constructed highways and other roads of the country are not repaired or rebuild immediately after they are damaged. It is a common scene observed by the commuters and Lorry drivers of the country everywhere in all seasons. Especially before the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitre and Eid-ul-Azha, holidaymakers invariably face a tough time travelling on these sorry states of roads and highways. At present, in the country, the total length of the national highways is 3,790.86 km and that of the regional highways is 4, 06.52 km, while district roads stretch for 13,126.13 km. Though the concerned authorities occasionally undertake some makeshift maintenance work here and there, invariably it looks unlikely to be enough for easy run of vehicles due to rain and the heavy volume of traffic on these roads.

Majority of the cars are in the Dhaka City. Even Chittagong is also heavily congested. Almost all the cars will end up in Dhaka and Chittagong if the taxes are lowered.
Brand new tiny Kia Picanto costs like $18500.00 US. I think this will cost about $12,000.00 after taxes are reduced.

You sire - are completely unaware of the state of erosion and monsoon weather in Bangladesh during the wet season. Bitumen Carpeting is needed EVERY year.

we have that problem too. Most of the cars end up in Yangon. but we solve that problem with regional number plates issued by regional authority. For instance , Cars from Yangon division got a number plate with a big YGN sign and so do other region. But if cars from other regions want to come YGN , it was heavily taxed at the entrance tollgate of YGN and the longer they stay in YGN with their cars , the heavier tax they have to pay to regional authority. or use public transport if u dont want to pay.but with YGN no plates , can go anywhere in Myanmar. So getting YGN plate become privilege and it was also a special attraction for vehicle assembler coz YGN plates is only available for local made cars.

So dont u feel unfair for people who live in other regions as ur national policy depend on only Dhaka and CHT's traffic congestion. I bet Infrastructure in BD is better than MM so letting general people to buy cars will not only accelerate ur economy but also improve their living standard.

Enforcement condition in MM is far better than Bangladesh.
It will only increase another sector from where police will collect bribes. Nothing will change on the ground.
