1971. I was young school going kid. Came home and every day our house in the evening had my dads friends congregated around the TV. In those days many people did not have TVs. Anyway although young I realized there was war going on in our country of orgin. A close relative was in Bangla so the whole thing was even more pronounced and personal. Everyday I felt the distress in the evening gathering and the debates and anger exhibited by my dad and his friends. We all know how the war went. So no, I don't like Banglas, Muslim or no Muslim. And I am going to nurse that feeling till I go 6 under. That is how it is.

You are correct that just because X occurred at times in history, that does not mean X is appropriate for today.

But that is too broad and too vague of an argument.

Take murder, for example. The philosophical, moral, and legal injunctions against the unjustified taking of a human life have always been a standard of a 'civilized' society. This injunction is old and consistent in every culture, and always been the first to be legally enacted before anything else simply because in order to have a cohesive society, every life must be protected.

So in a manner of speaking, you cannot use that overly broad argument. Sorry.

The argument needs to be taken in a case by case not as a whole. In the context of incest it works. But that wasn't my main argument.
