KARACHI:

Mir Shabbir Ali Bijarani of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has been elected unopposed from PS-6 Kashmore-III, becoming the first victorious lawmaker of the 2018 general elections in the country.

The PPP candidate, who is son of former Sindh minister Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, was declared winner after nomination papers of his only competitor Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal’s (MMA) Pir Abdul Qayyum were rejected by the returning officer and an appellate tribunal of Sindh High Court.

A notification of Bijarani’s win was also issued on Friday.

Bijarani likely to return to PPP

There are a total of 145,851 registered voters in the Sindh Assembly constituency, including 83,671 male and 62,180 female voters, according to the notification issued by RO Ataullah Mahar.

The development comes only a day after a PPP delegation succeeded in overcoming Mir Shabbir Bijarani’s dissent with the party, he had parted ways with earlier this week.

In a press conference on Wednesday, he had blamed the party for secretly trying to oust him from the contest by filing objection through a person against his candidacy.

Bijarani killed wife before committing suicide: initial probe

The Bijarani family has remained associated with the PPP since the party was founded. Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, who along with his wife Farhia Razaque was found shot dead in his residence in Karachi on February 1, was elected MNA four times and served as the federal minister. He was considered a strong candidate for the chief minister Sindh after 2013 general elections.

Totally misleading title by OP. He not in PPP anymore. He is an independent and against Zardari league and he is supporting all the opponents of PPP in his area.

He left PPP, became independent and then rejoined PPP all within 48 hours. His pledge of supporting opponents was also short-lived.
Rofl this is democracy in backward Sindh, not very different to backend of Bihar or Jharkhand where casteism and robbers rule.
PPP does'nt do governance just feeds on to peoples fears that only it can win and this news might be half true yet Peoples party would use it to coerce people that even if they vote against them still they'll win.
