Poverty line and the trick game of governments !!!

can you help to find the official report from China govt ?
in my opinion, bad managed govts always make up to their performance.
Reduce the ratio of poverty people is one of those KPI.

While they keep so low standard for more people get out of poverty, they tried to make us believe in their good achievements.
No other could set the national standard of poverty instead of the govt of that nation.

I don't agree for some govt satisfying with low ratio of people has income under 1.25$ / person
It should be at least double of that, ie. 2.50$ or better 4.00$ / person.

Including Vietnam govt.

The govt must work harder, more performance.
They must feel shame on their bad management, high corruption rate in their nation.

the issue is those statistics are unreliable

the poverty mostly depends how many disabled, old ppl or orphans are there in China
but
1) disabled ppl or old ppl may still have jobs or pensions
2) if they don't have jobs or enough pensions, they have government allowances, rural poor ppl get $30/month while city ppl get $60/month, and this allowance continues to grow

so the ppl under that lines are :
1) a few disabled/old/orphan ppl who have no jobs and don't know government policies (e.g, they have no relatives/friends who told them and a few local governments havn't done a responsible job to include them in)
2) some isolated areas where the ppl are lazy, religious and are not willing to work in the cities and enjoying the primary-style life

You are not answering machine? The loop mechanism is malfunction.
Just kidding. You could post once, that's enough. No need to flood the thread by repeat thing.

Earning $2 a day, 60.19% population live below poverty line

Ah yes. Some specialists recommend to use 2$ / day applied to middle income countries.
But several govts still want to use 1$ / day standard, although they are middle income country.

Earning $2 a day, 60.19% population live below poverty line

ISLAMABAD: The Economic Survey for 2013-14 on Monday revealed that if the poverty line is $2 per day in line with international standards for middle-income countries, then 60.19 percent of the population fall below poverty line in Pakistan.
The survey revealed that this figure is according to the World Bank’s Poverty Head Count Analysis 2014. However, if income per adult in Pakistan is taken as $ 1.25 per day, then 21.04 percent of the population falls below poverty line at 2008 population estimates. The position of poverty in Pakistan is better than India and Bangladesh but Sri Lanka, China and Philippine’s are in a better position than Pakistan. The percentage of population below $2 per day in China is 29.79 percent; Bangladesh 76.54 percent, Indian 68.72 percent, S Lanka 29.13 percent, Nepal 57.25 percent and Philippines is 41.53 percent.
Pakistan has adopted the Millennium Declaration in the year 2000, and is committed to ‘spare no effort to set free the most vulnerable segment of population from the abject and dehumanising conditions of extreme poverty’. The Government of Pakistan recognises that eradication of poverty & hunger to meet Goal-1 is a first step in promoting a just and progressive society.
Under MDG-1, Pakistan aims to halve by 2015, the proportion of people living below the national poverty line, achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all, and halve the proportion of people who suffer from hunger.

This is indeed the proper measure of poverty and economics. The countries ideal of a local poverty line is flawed and attempts to paint the poor as rich to hide their own poor governance. Living below $2 a day is horrible and the people who are living in such abject poverty must be moved to a better standard of living. It might take a lot of time however.

The best judges of poverty are humanitarian organizations. They predict the values correctly because it is their job to reduce the figures as much as possible.

Living in China: 500g rice ($0.4), 100g egg ($0.1), 500g vegitables ($0.3), 150g pork ($0.3) =$1.1 per day.
For an ordinary family of three they would spend $100-$200 per month on food at home.

That is a reality as well. 5 rupees in Pakistan for naan (bread staple). 15 rupees for a bottle of coke. So living is cheap in our countries too. But still I believe the poverty line should be in dollars and the line below 2$ a day is partly accurate as the people with this little money do not have access to lots of basic necessities... which are well basic for us. They don't have cars, computers or other things.

In any case China is rising rapidly and with you guys Asia. I hope we Pakistanis can benefit from China's model of growth.

Poverty is part of any society. But I would like to ask you guys a poignant question, albeit its more spiritual in form:

Let's say there is a fisherman, he makes $35,000 a year. Yet his family never starves, because of bountiful catches a day. Let's say he also owns a family rice plot , guaranteeing him that he gets 4 harvests a year with fresh rice. His wife also maintains a garden in the backyard, securing fresh produce during harvest season. This fisherman has 3 children; 2 sons and 1 daughter. His eldest son defers going to school and helps his father and learns his trade. His second son and his daughter go to school; his 2nd son wants to be an engineer, and daughter dreams to become a nurse someday. Included in their nuclear family is the fisherman's mother and father. The family eat together , share laughs, they are happy, content, and industrious.

Yet society and statistics declares them "poor". Is it really so? Yes, they may live in the lower threshold of the income bracket in Japan, but they're happy, content, and a cohesive family unit.

Something to ponder on, folks.

Your comparsion is sounding like many Chinese farmers. They don't make the $7000 US/year per person but they have access to fresh own grown food, meat , etc, better air quality. Much better than say a person making $20,000 US/year living in Beijing in a cramped one room apartment.

Precisely! I always stress Quality over quantity.

I agree on your opinion. The govt must set the standard of living for satisfying basic demand of their people like food, accommodation, water, radio ... any poverty line that failed to reflect the real basic demands is just meaningless.

So 2$/day seem to be minimum level. 1$/day is just a joke.
