Police show off preparedness for Muharram
ISLAMABAD: Industrial Area Zone of Islamabad police on Saturday conducted a flag march along with contingents of Pakistan Rangers.
The flag march was conducted under the supervision of SP (Industrial Area )Yasir Afradi which was participated by SDPOs and SHOs of Industrial Area Zone police stations, officials of Pakistan Rangers, Islamabad Traffic Police, police commandos, Rescue 15 police and police patrolling officials.
Flag march started from Police line Headquarters and culminated at I9 Police Station after passing through Kashimar Highway, Islamabad Chowk, Shams Colony, Golra Mor Chowk , Jangi Syedain, Motorway Chowk, Kashmir Highway, I10 , Sabzi Mandi, IJP Road, Imambargha Mosa Kazam, Imambargaha Jafria, Kachi Abadi, I8/2 Babul Elam Chowk, Shifa International, Bekan House, Jamia-Al-Kosar and Sector I9.
Islamabad SSP Sajid Kiani has said that the Islamabad police have ensured detailed security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram. He said that police would accomplish responsibility in an efficient manner to ensure protection to lives and property of citizens. He also directed the policemen to launch an effective search operation within their jurisdictions including slum areas where most of the inhabitants are Afghans.
He said that the Islamabad Police have made full preparations for high alert security during Muharram and duty roasters have been compiled. He said operational policemen have been assigned their duties and special control room has been established to ensure effective coordination among all wings of the Islamabad police and assisting security agencies. The SSP said that purpose of this flag march was to show preparedness of police and other law enforcement agencies during the Muharram-ul-Haram in order to counter any challenge and maintain peace in the city. He also directed all the SDPOs and the SHOs to make effective security arrangements in their respective areas. Kiani said that that the Islamabad Police would maintain a close liaison with peace committees and organisers of Muharram gatherings and processions.
Renovation of PR’s waiting halls: Pakistan Railways would up grade waiting halls at its 16 major stations by providing air-conditioners, Internet kiosks, televisions and other facilities. The waiting rooms at the stations are generally well maintained, however, proposals are under consideration to improve facilities for passengers at railway stations in the country.
Official sources on Saturday said the selected 16 stations are Karachi City, Karachi Cantonment, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Okara, Raiwind, Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Hassanabdal, Nankana Sahib, Narowal, Peshawar and Quetta.
The sources said the scope of up gradation will cover all allied amenities for convenience of passengers. In addition, one air-conditioned waiting room for ladies and one for gents have been constructed at Lahore Station. Replying to a question, the sources said it is not a fact that substandard food and other items are being sold at railway stations at higher prices and added in fact Pakistan Railway has introduced a new catering policy whereby the sale of substandard food and other items have been completely eliminated.
Now only branded food items such as water, soft drinks, ice cream, tea and biscuits are being sold. They said a system of checking has also been put in place to ensure quality and prices of eatables being sold at the stations.
