PNS Alamgir sets sail for Pakistan

Where is PNS Alamgir? There seems to be sort of mystere developing here. I do hope it did nort skirt the "Triangle" on her maiden voyage as PNS Alamgir :-)

- at sea, working up and/or exercising with other navies?
- at another port than Karachi (given recent events, her also being ex-US equipment)?
- at Karachi, well tucked away from view?

certainly NIMBY! :azn:

so herer we are, the ship is arriving and regardless of claim of "heavy upgardation and modification" all have proved to be nothing but a false claim.
here we have a boat, deprived of Mk-13 (the much appreciated asset that some people claimed to make this a better platform then the F-22p frigates), absolutley no anti air capability and 30 years old sturcture. Haa!

it was stated that this will be the most capable ship in PN fleet. i sincerely wish, for betterment of nation, this is not the case at this is actually nothing.

yes, its good to keep presence in anti paracy missions so that the F-22p can be spared to defence the pak seas!

There is nothing wrong with her ASW fit. If and when PN retires Type 21s, it can install Harpoons from those ships onto any Perry's. All you then need is some air selfdefence augmentation e.g. FL3000Ns from China or RAM from the US. Might even stick the LY60 from the Type 21 onto the first few.

so the harpons can be transfered and will surely will be. however, i think that the prim focus if o use these in anti-piracy roles so PN might not be going for the AAW capabilities. these are quite old ships and inducting new systems for these wont be an option.
are the phalnax intact, this is to be seen once the ship is at port and can be can be partically seen.
also another thing is that can the Z-9 be incorprated with the battle systems on board these OHPs. or we might use drones for survellience if these are only being used in anti piracy roles.

Docked at Shuwaikh port, Kuwait, Jul 2nd 2011.

PNS Alamgir received a mostly mechanical overhaul, which had to be conducted in the US as part of the deal. All four diesels engines were removed and overhauled, along with air conditioning units and refrigeration. Fuel oil tanks and voids were cleaned, inspected, repaired and painted.
All shafting, the controllable pitch propeller system as well as sea valves were replaced, overhauled or renovated, with almost every pump opened, inspected and overhauled as needed.
Ventilators and fans went through a similar process of inspection and overhaul, while Breakers, NR3 switchboard, windlass, and boat davit all got inspections and overhauls.
Completely new equipment includes a new navigation suite and bridge, the composite dome over the fully overhauled AN/SQS-56 sonar, and a VIP cabin.

Crap? As compared to what? Type 21's? F22P? Pffff.....
But F22P is new, will go for next 30to 40 years of service but this US frigate won't go more than 10 years cuz it already completed her lifeterm of 32 years with US so its almost Junk now.Can US give US new frigate for the same price of F-22P? if yes! then its a good deal but for Junks it can't be.......:smokin:

it will need at least 50 to 100 million $$ for upgradation...So why to spend that much money on the old ship if we can buy a new F22P with that amount???......or we shold go for 054A frigates which will be new too....arent we stupid to waste our money on old junks???......

this kinda job could be done by any new ship like F22p....plus this old junk is not even reliable...if that was of any value then why US didn't keep it ....why they didn't giveus their new ship to us.....???......everybody need to use their brain here.....:agree:

i agree in its current form its junk but with its advanced sonar capability and a few mil$ 3D survallance radar it can becom a better signal ship.
