We need to learn to hold on to our horses...every other visit and we think that something is going on!

The German ambassador visits and we start drooling...naval chief visits PAC just as a routine visits on the invitation of CAS and we start hypothesizing etc. SHaheen tests into the sea, we think it's an ASBM.

The Mirages are doing fine at the moment as a naval support aircraft and there are no immediate plans for a JFT specified for a naval role. Further down the road, it will be used for the naval role.

Hi,

Pak navy is the most under appreciated service of the pak military---they have the most critical job to do in this day and age---and they have to depend on traitors to give them air time and air support IF THEY FEEL LIKE IT.

Generalizing with a word like traitors?

There was never a position like CJCSC before, if the past is repeated now, then you can say the same.

.
Hi,

Because PAF has acted as traitors when it came to helping navy in 71 war---. The arrogance of paf is open to all----their contempt for those walking on land or plying on seas is not secret----. Navy has evey right to have their own wing and if it comes to it---army should have their own fighter and air support group---.

Pak air force is the most pathetic organization in pak millitary.

Walikum Hi,

Hope you can remember that back in 1971, the PAF had no dedicated Maritime observation/Strike capability, it pressed it's C-130s, B-57s and even F-104 into service for this role but without the dedicated maritime capability, one or two such missions almost ended in tragedy....it was this shortcoming that forced the PAF to purchase the Mirage-5PA-3 armed with the Exocet ASM.......not sure about the PN, but i know for a fact that PAF was training army pilots on the fast jets.....however since the PN does have an air wing equipped with both rotary and fixed wing types, adding a squadron or two of JF-17s equipped with c-802s seems a viable option and should take some load off the PAF shoulders. !!

.
a good move, Navy should have it's own dedicate airwing, squadrons specialized in sea operations

Notice the serial on the tail.

JF-17 is capable of Naval roles, carrying anti-ship missiles like C-802/03 etc. There is no doubt that they will work with the Navy, but how? Will the Navy own them or Air Force use them? I don't see Navy buying them anytime soon until the PAF's demands of Block-I and Block-II are all met.

The picture has nothing related to it.

Salt water is highly corrosive and since dedicated anti-ship aircrafts constantly train and fly in highly corrosive environment; simply marrying an anti-ship missile to an aircraft is not sufficient.

To the best of my info, all aircrafts have to be ‘Marinised’ for naval use. This involves special protective coating/or dipping of the avionics/electronic components; frame is coated with special salt water resistant paint & engines parts are also treated the same way. It would therefore be quite some time before we see a maritime version of the JF-17.

Does any member has info about how Pak Navy Mirages are been cared for and what is the essential difference between the Air Force & Naval Mirages beside the capability to carry Exocet missile?

I do not know for sure, but there maybe differences in avionics.

Since this topic has been brought up, in recent history of Pakistan's Mirage crashes, Navy has a higher ratio of crashes than PAF. There were 3 crashes from a Squadron in 2 months infact, in 2012.

AFAIK, anti-corrosion coatings on the outside and inside, engine blades, compressor area etc...only stuff for corrosion as these aircraft don't have to land on any aircraft carrier which would need a strengthened MLG, tail hook etc.

THe naval helicopters also have the same treatment, anti-corrosion, some additional filters in the air intakes and protection against digestion of water in case of ditching. I reckon the jets would be similar to this.

The filters are really important, as the coating only does work to some extent, salt can make thick layers inside the engine components if filters are not applied.

Interest in dedicated Naval Squadron. :pakistan:

I am sure that PN is interested in having about 50 JF-17s for Naval role 25 of Block-IIs and 23 of Block-IIIs. But I would rather say that it will be far better for the Navy and for the Army to leave the fixed wing duties that includes transportation of VIPs to PAF and can name that service Pakistan Military Transport being operated by PAF. Also the PN and PAA fixed wing fleet of MPAs and intelligence aircraft to PAF.

. .
The picture looks absolutely great! There should be more iconic pictures of inter-forces cooperation for the morale of the people PN and PAF, rock on!

. .
Unless PN has an Aircraft Carrier Group, what is the point of Pakistan Navy having fighter aircrafts. If they are going to operate from land, they can let PAF operate from their bases. They should better coordinate operations with Pakistan Air Force and avoid redundancies.

To gain more operational synergy. Past record of PAF and PN coordination during the conflicts is not outstanding. Plus against IN's fighter squadrons which will be targeting PN's surface fleet, Thunders under the complete PN command means that PN will have its own plan and strategy to counter IN's aviation threat.
