ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has accepted and signed the advice of the Prime Minister to terminate Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) chairman Chaudhry Rashid Ahmad declaring the appointment ab-initio (illegal from the very beginning).


An official statement from the Presidency said the appointment of Chaudhry Rashid Ahmad as per requirement was neither open nor transparent.
It said the appointment was violative of SCP guidelines and orders in acting chairman Pemra case and in K. Asif vs State case.


"Chaudhry Rashid being Secretary Information and serving government employee initiated a summary proposing himself as a candidate of chairman Pemra without carrying out an open and transparent process of appointment," the statement said.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Monday suspended the Federal Government's order terminating the services of PEMRA Chairman Chaudhry Rasheed Ahmed.


Hearing the petition filed by Chaudhry Rasheed through counsel Wasim Sajjad, the single-member bench comprising Justice Riaz Khan sought a reply from the government within 14 days.


The notices have also been issued to the parties.


The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority Chairman had requested the court to declare the termination order as illegal.
