Second PTI worker succumbs to PMLN shooting​

LAHORE: Another Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) worker, wounded by the gun-toting office bearers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN), has succumbed to his wounds taking the toll of that one-sided shooting two, Samaa reported late on Sunday night.


Earlier, a PTI worker was allegedly shot dead on the spot while four others sustained gunshot wounds after heavily armed PMLN activists sprayed them with bullets in Yaki Gate area. One of the injured victims identified as Arif died in the hospital about three hours after the incident. Both the deceased men are said to be real brothers.


"This is outrageous. The PMLN goons have crossed all the the lines tonight. Innocent people are losing lives to political intolerance. Their blood is on the PMLN leaders' hands, " the PTI leader Chaudhry Sarwar told reporters outside the hospital the casualties were rushed to.


Reportedly, a bunch of local PMLN leaders, who were armed to teeth, stormed a PTI office in an apparent bid to browbeat them.


"They were trying to frighten us off our mission. An argument broke out. We told them we don't want any trouble, but the PMLN men brought their guns into action. Several men went down before the shooters took their fingers off the triggers of their automatic weapons," the PTI sources added.


Harshing on the police for not only sleeping on the job but also being politicized, Sarwar said the PTI top brass would soon join heads to decide a future course of action after this tragedy.


"PMLN gunmen opened fire on unarmed PTI workers. Even if they had been armed they would not resorted to violence. I can say it for sure. Anyways, we have advised Insafians to stay calm. We will deal with it according to the law of the land," the PTI leader said.


Later, on the complaint of PTI leader Chaudhry Tanveer a case was lodged with police against PMLN office bearers from UC-33 including Zahid Rashid, Ahmed Rashid, Malik Tariq Pappa, and Yousaf Khurram under various charges including terrorism.


Stepping in on the matter, Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif, has tasked the authorities with a straightaway action against the perpetrators.
