The Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) would push an agenda of carving out two provinces – one out of Punjab and one out of Sindh – if it came to power in the next elections, parliamentarians from southern Punjab were assured during a consultative meeting here yesterday.

A day after eight legislators quit the PML-N over differences on not legislating for a Seraiki province, the party called parliamentarians from southern Punjab to Lahore for a consultative meeting with Shahbaz Sharif, the party’s newly-elected president.
All parliamentarians were allowed to voice their concerns.

National Assembly member (MNA) Syed Muhammad Saqlain Shah Bukhari from NA-182 (Layyah-II) said that the party leadership pledged to push forward the agenda of two provinces – one each in Punjab and Sindh.
He said that the party would get the relevant legislation approved, with or without the required majority.

According to Bukhari, the party would later push forward the agenda of creating a separate province in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – the Hazara province.

He contended that although some of those who quit the party had done so because of personal reasons, others had been “forced” to do so.
Several others, he said, were also being pushed to quit the party.
According to Muhammad Khan Daha, MNA from NA-157 (Khanewal-II), most of those who quit the party had been denied party tickets.
He said that the PML-N had done a lot for southern Punjab in the area of education and health, and providing them civic amenities.

Sharif, who is also the Punjab chief minister, said that the PML-N had so far presented two resolutions in the Punjab Assembly for restoring Bahawalpur state and creating a southern Punjab province, adding that the PML-N had got these resolutions approved.
“Unlike other political parties, we [at the PML-N] are committed to the demand of creating new provinces,” he said, adding that southern Punjab was given more development funds in relation to its population.

Sharif also said that Fort Munro is being developed as a tourist resort.
The chief minister said that marked improvement had been made in various sectors in southern Punjab, including health, education and infrastructure development.
During the current fiscal year, 36% of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) was being spent on southern Punjab, Sharif said, adding that development projects worth Rs229bn were being completed in southern Punjab.

The chief minister said that a 10% quota had been fixed for southern Punjab in all government schemes, including Apna Roozgar.

He stressed that avoiding confrontation and agitation are in the larger national interest.
Those who called on the chief minister included Federal Minister Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, Minister of State Abdul Rehman Kanjo, MNAs Sardar Amjad Farooq Khan Khosa, Malik Sultan Mehmood Hunjra and Sardar Ashique Hussain Gopang, Provincial Assembly member (MPA) Zeshan Gurmani and former MNA Saddique Khan Baloch.

Provincial Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmad and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan were also at the meeting.

Completely agree with N league stance here, we need more provinces from punjab, KP and Sindh. Looks like only N-league is serious about more provinces.

Pakistan needs more dams to survive. Pakistan has only 10 years now otherwise forget about agriculture (water divergent by india) and industries (due to expensive source of energy) if you cant do it so no one would invest in pakistan in future. Pakistan economy based on water either agriculture or industries (with cheap source of energy hydel) this is the only way to compete regionally.

New Provinces are secondary. You can not make all new provinces suddently..

As always pseudo intellectuals of PMLN wants to do it just for saving their own politics without knowing the horrible consequences for pakistan.. Why not support Siraeki Suba first.. You hypocrite...

It is just a desperate but a dishonest attempt to attract some voters from South Punjab as 6 MNAs from this region left PMLn recently.

PMLn is a history...the criminal league is going to jail and its "lions" have already started to desert it, leaving behind only the 100% illegitimate donkeys.

It had a full term in office to do this if it wanted. Not going to go into the benefits/negatives of new provinces (there are good arguments for both) but this statement is just a false claim to attract voters who are pro new provinces. No way is N League actually going to create new provinces.

lol, too little too late, WTF were they doing for the past 5 yrs.

Anyway as i said before the best solution is to dissolve all provinces and instead have Divisional administrative govts. Having multiple legislative houses is such a waste of the limited resources that we have. Think about it, we are paying for MPAs, MNAs and then Senators as well.

Can you explain how you came to the conclusion that N-League is actually serious about this and its not just an attempt to stop the members that are jumping ship

The best political solution and system for pakistan would be a presidential system along with 18 amendments to keep in check the Mr. president by legislative body and MPs. (MPs would be only policy makers and no further role)..

PMLN is currently in Government, why now start now instead of asking for Re-election?

In a simplified version.
Sweden use to have provinces in the past but then it dissolved all of them and communes acquired most the powers of the provinces like govt, tax collection, revenue management, health, education etc and some of the power went to the centre. Now the centre directly communicated with the communes

They had 5 years why didn't they do it?
They will never do it...even if given eternity because PMLn is an ethno-fascist party uses Punjabi card and slogan like Jaag Punjabi Jaag..
