The fear that Chinese making bases in SL against india is very dumb. Most Lankans do not support Chinese bases in SL.
As he says China doesn't really have a true blue water navy yet so China won't be thinking about creating bases world wide at least until they get a sufficient nuclear aircraft carrier fleet.

Good discussion with the honorable SL PM...but SL really needs to turn its economy around ASAP.

Need to go full throttle and get growth back up, social development is quite good already.....but former LTTE controlled areas definitely need a lot of infrastructure put in there....a good opportunity to get the capex spending and investment cycles going and get the economic momentum to get out of the somewhat current "rut" that exists.

This talk he had with CB Naidu (that he mentioned) would have been an interesting one I think. Thats a great local leader to partner up for SL (No TN related political baggage and his state is going really big into capex spending and projects right now).

During wickramasinghe's visit to Japan he asked their help for a donor conferrence to boost development in North East.
Before the war the north had some of the largest cement ,chemical factories in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is planning to revive a major cement factory in kankesanthurai with the port there being repaired with Indian help it could start exporting cement to India with its major construction boom.
And several large wind power projects are starting in the north as well

I think the most profound thing he said was that "We're merchants in the middle of the Indian ocean, So we trade.. Thats all we do.. Anybody is free to do business with us"

I thought it was a excellent way of putting things in to perspective

Not exactly! China wants to put pressure on our Southern side, by using You,While we got the Northwest side,Perhaps you guys would love to be under Chinese/Atheist rule instead of Buddhist rule.

Cant happen, When China is occupying TIBET and wants to park its Nuke Submarines or its carrier fleet at our borders.
Sorry mate, we are not Gandhi nor Nehru to fall for Chinese bluff, First strike will be your Island!

And the Chinese Mainland when it comes to that.(is CHINA READY FOR THAT?)
This wont be Business as usual or you want.
I am putting it in the perspective of how things work around the world, not how you want it to be.
