PM unveils development projects in Quetta

QUETTA – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday inaugurated a number of development projects worth of billions rupees in power transmission line, gas pipeline and underpasses for Quetta.

The prime minister who arrived in Quetta earlier in the day unveiled the plaques of various projects.BalochistanGovernor Muhammad Khan Achakzai, Chief Minister NawabSanaullah Khan Zehri, the federal and provincial ministers, members of the parliament and senior officials were also present on the occasion.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the 220 KV Khuzdar Grid Station and a 274 km Khuzdar-Dadu electricity transmission line which was completed at a cost of Rs 7.35 billion.He also inaugurated a 227 km Loralai-DG Khan electricity transmission line which was completed at a cost of Rs 2.731 billion.


The projects were aimed at meeting power demand, improve the voltage profile of system in the province and generate employment opportunities.The prime minister inaugurated a project for the supply of gas to InayatullahKarezGulistan in District Qilla Abdullah. Under the project, a gas pipeline of 55 km will be laid at a cost of Rs 571 million.

He also inaugurated a project for the supply of gas to Mastung, Qalat and adjoining areas. Under the project, a 16 diameter gas pipeline of 40 km will be laid at a cost of Rs 840 million.The prime minister inaugurated the construction of an underpass on Brewary Road at GolimarChowk in Quetta.

The project will be completed at a cost of around Rs 1.227 billion by August 2017.He also inaugurated the construction of another underpass on Zarghoon Road in Quetta. The project will be completed at a cost of Rs 628.5 million by May 2017.

The prime minister also inaugurated the construction of a new Block at Civil Secretariat in Quetta. The new block is being constructed at a cost of Rs 591.139 million.

– Nawaz launches health plan –

Nawaz Sharif launched the state-run National Health Programme benefiting about 76,000 families in four districts of Balochistan.At least 76,000 poor families have been selected from Quetta through the data of Benazir Income Support Programme for giving them free healthcare facilities under the programme.

Under the programme, a family gets Rs50,000 for secondary care treatment which begins as soon as a patient is hospitalised. It covers all kinds of diseases, including maternity care. Moreover, each family can get treatment of Rs250,000 under the category of priority diseases which include cancer, accident, burn injuries, diabetic complications, heart bypass and infections.

The amount can be doubled in case of emergency and it will be contributed by the Pakistan Baitul Mal.The Minister for National Health Services, SairaAfzalTarar, and a team of her ministry had earlier reached Quetta to finalise arrangements of the inaugural ceremony to be held at the Governor House.
