KARACHI: Prime Minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Leader of opposition Syed Khursheed Shah have secretly agreed on the name of interim prime minister and other cabinet members.

According to local news outlet, the decision was finalized between the meeting of PM Abbasi and Khursheed Shah; both the parties finalized the name and decided that the issue would not be referred to the parliamentary committee or Election Commission of Pakistan.

Sources added that the two parties have considered the names of Justice (retd) Tasadduq Hussain Jilani, Dr Ishrat Hussain, Justice (retd) Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Justice (retd) Nasirul Mulk, Justice (retd) Shakirullah Jan, Dr Shamshad Akhtar, Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid and some other names for the caretaker prime minister.

Justice (retd) Tasadduq Hussain Jilani and Dr Ishrat Hussain were two strongest candidates for the post.

Reports added that PML-N wants to appoint a person with an expert from financial background and favoring the name of Dr Ishrat for the post.

However, the PPP wants someone with a judicial background. Therefore, they are considering the names of either Justice (retd) Tasadduq Hussain Jilani or Justice (retd) Anwar Zaheer Jamali for the caretaker PM.

KARACHI: The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have secretly agreed on the name of the caretaker premier. The name was finalised between PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Opposition leader Khursheed Shah.

The decision was taken during secret talks conducted between the two parties and was decided that the issue would not be referred to the parliamentary committee or the ECP.

According to the PML-N sources, the party leadership was able to secretly send messages to PPP in order to confirm a reliable name. It was agreed that a name with mutual consensus would be decided.

The two parties have considered the names of Justice (retd) Tasadduq Hussain Jilani, Dr Ishrat Hussain, Justice (retd) Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Justice (retd) Nasirul Mulk, Justice (retd) Shakirullah Jan, Dr Shamshad Akhtar, Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid and some other names for the caretaker prime minister.

Of the suggested names, the two strong personalities decided for the position of caretaker premier were Justice (retd) Tasadduq Hussain Jilani and Dr Ishrat Hussain.

On the other hand, the PML-N desires that person with an expertise in financial and administrative matters should be the caretaker PM. Hence, Dr Ishrat is considered to be an important candidate by PML-N.

However, the PPP wants someone with a judicial background. Therefore, they are considering the names of either Justice (retd) Tasadduq Hussain Jilani or Justice (retd) Anwar Zaheer Jamali for the caretaker PM.

PML-N stands to benefit from opposition disarray

According to sources, the PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari held consultations with and senior party members and soon the name of the candidate for caretaker prime minister would be announced.

While the PML-N sources confirmed, discussions between the lifetime leader of PML-N Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi have taken place for the position of caretaker PM. Sharif has advised Abbasi to finalise the name of the candidate with Khursheed Shah before the tenure of the incumbent government is completed.

The PML-N central secretary information Mushahidullah Khan said, “PM Abbasi is in contact with the opposition leader on the issue of caretaker PM and PML-N is trying to solve the issue with consensus.”

According to a senior PPP leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the two parties were in touch on the issue.

I think it is going to be Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid...for his harsh stance on agencies and sind government...then again, a stance of PML on him might have pushed PPP to compromise on another mater, a give and take candidate might indicate a deal between the two sides.

Just to understand- is naming an interim PM just before elections a normal practice in Pakistan? Dont you have any independent body like an election Commision and the concept of a moral code of conduct?

In India once elections are announced the Election Commision becomes very powerful. no new policies can be announced, no new projects can be inaugurated, even the PM can be pulled by the EC for any electoral malpractices.

Just a few weeks ago the planes of Amit Shah - the president of the BJP (second most powerful man in India after Modi) and Rahul Gandhi - the president of the congress were both searched by the Election Commision officials when they had gone to Karnataka for Election Campaigning

Just because you call him a terrorist does not make him one. Trust me Congress hates Modi more then any Pakistani could ever do. It is Modi's mission to have a Congress Mukt Bharat (Congress Free India) Still 10 years under their rule they could not find him guilty of anything and the Supreme Court appointed SIT (special investigation team) gave him a clean chit.

You may diss him all you want but no body in India gives a flying F. Infact the more you diss him the more his popularity grows

Have to admit the fact that Indian EC is much more independent, evolved and has far better laws and regulations than ECP.

Not to boast or anything they have 70 years experience conducting elections. and any parliament election they conduct is the biggest in the world. plus they conduct multiple elections throughout the year from local panchayats to Parliament.

On 12th May there is an election in Karnataka. Maybe ECP officials can come and study the election.
