In a First, INS Vikramaditya to Host Combined Commanders' Conference Next Month

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to address this year’s combined commanders’ conference onboard INS Vikramaditya off the Kochi coast on December 15.

Navy sources confirmed that they have been asked to prepare for the PM’s visit. Addressing the conference last year, Modi had urged that the subsequent event be held outside the national capital.

“We have been told to prepare for the PM’s visit to the aircraft carrier,” a Navy source said. He added that the prime reason behind the conference being held onboard the aircraft carrier is because of the size of the VIP delegation that will attend the event. The conference hosts the country’s top military brass besides members of the cabinet committee on security and top bureaucrats.

“The PM had last year said that the conference be hosted by each service by turns. The Navy is the first one to have got the opportunity. As of now, it is being held on board Vikramaditya,” an officer added.
