PM Modi permits surplus power sale to Pakistan!

Man here the key is sell ..no one is forcing you to buy

Havent you heard the more crying from Pak politician , diplomats and Jurnos regarding water ...we have 40 dams and many are in plannings ;) ..... wait for some more time you have sahara like desert in your Punjab

Yes, why shouldn't Pakistan's leaders expose your drame? The fact is your CM wants to earn money for his personal expenditure. Because there will be a lot of tenders lining up in your Punjab to bribe this Sikh CM so that he passes a project selling electricity to Pakistan.

This has nothing to do with you National pride but just his pocket!! Fooling you :)

PM Modi permits surplus power sale to Pakistan: Amarinder Singh
By Parshant Krar, ET Bureau | Updated: Apr 25, 2017, 05.21 PM IST
Amarinder Singh today said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given green signal to the state to sell surplus power to Pakistan. The chief minister had earlier sought Centre's sanction to supply power across border to curtail expenditure on fixed costs and costly power that state is obligated to buy as per Power Purchase Agreements.

The chief minister revealed about the positive response from the PM to a CII delegation headed by chairman & CEO, Renew Power Ventures Sumant Sinha, appointed as chairman CII North and managing director Vardhman Special Steels Sachit Jain, appointed as deputy chairman, CII North. Singh also revealed that the Prime Minister had indicated that Punjab should look for other trade options with Pakistan.

In the last week, the chief minister had sought permission to sell its surplus power to Pakistan or Nepal in the economic interest of the cash-crunched state. The state is left with 1000 MW surplus power after meeting its domestic demand, and consumers are forced to pay extra taxes to sustain fixed cost of power generating units.

My intial reaction was "cheating hogayi".
But then Modi, his doves and Doval's have their own way of functioning.
@anant_s Im sure you understand how this works.
As far as my memory takes me back,in 2013,UPA has proposed something similar and it was supposed to be the mother of all confidence building measures. Later in 2015, Adnani had visited Pakistan along with Modi and discussed the sale of up to 4000 MW to Pakistan in phases.
For the members who aren't aware,14years back Pakistan was supposed to sell power to us(500MW I guess). But the tables have turned now.

What say Pakistanis?
@Horus @I.R.A @Arsalan
Ideally we should not be selling power to you, as many believe that India wants to strangle Pakistan. Lol

Want to see how Indians react to this news?
@Star Wars @cerberus @foxtrot1 @thesolar65 @RISING SUN @Robinhood Pandey
And everyone else. :)
My genuine opinion- it will not succeed in long term. Reasons are very well known, no need to ponder over it over n over again.

You have to ask your politicians why they should not ....

and Indian politicians are sane enough not to publicise their personal earnings :D , he is already may be more rich then richest man in Pakistan as he is from royal family of Patiala

and just FYI this Sikh CM has fought for India and served in Indian army ...... and yes we have nationalism but not blind nationalism and personally its bad to sell to Pakistan better sell this surpulous to industry at lower rates that will be better then selling to pakistan

I ll wait for China to set up electricity grids via the Kashmir region to supply uninterrupted power to Pakistan. That would still move at a quicker pace.

Frequent power cuts in the summer has a way of making things move.

Summer temperature in pakistan goes up to 50 degree C or 122 degree F. Not a nice time to be without power.

The trust level is so low between the two countries that even sporting ties are snapped by India so there is no point in starting economic trade when you can't even play a game in sportsman spirit

What are you getting out of it? Nothing.

Sports is useless, relations are built on stronger foundation of demand and supply.

Dont need indian electricity

tell modi to shove his 4000MW up where the sun doesn't shine

Modi doesn't give a $hit either way. This is the new CONgress CM of punjab and his sapney.

yeah makes sense its not Modi, the world would have laughed at Modis back tracking regarding paskistan had he decided to offer surplus electric.

When two countries cant even play game mutually then there is no sense in business with that country

What is the point of "Games" ? that all rubbish.

Matters of the stomach is more important than matters of the heart. Trade creates GDP growth and puts food on the table.

Like I said, Modi doesn't give a $hit. All he has done is given permission to the punjab CM to sell electricity if he wants.

trade too happens between two parties do you believe if two countries can't play a game of sport will exchange trade ?

two parts to your query @Levina
Power Purchase Agreement usually require buyer (The Grid) to continuously buy a certain minimum Units from generating utility. Now in last 2 years after coal mess was sorted out, Thermal power plants are running at record capacities.
Now power unlike other commodities, cannot be stored and hence when demand is low, plants are forced to reduce generation.
PPA however carry a penalty clause on customer, which if unable to buy agreed value of power, will pay a surcharge leading to higher bills. This is what they are talking about and trying to sell to Pakistan.
Second, I'm not certain if Pakistan has agreed to purchase power but they can.
Few years back there was a serious idea of creating a SAARC regional power trading exchange as this would have massively benefitted Bhutan and Nepal, which have low demand but huge Hydro potential. Unfortunately things in our part of the world move in a way @scorpionx has described.
Similar thing happened about 6 years back when Pakistan wanted to buy Diesel Locomotives from India but nothing materialized.

Why does two countries have to play sports to trade ? :cheesy:

It defies logic.

We are not looking for "friendship", we are looking for money and so are they.

There is already trade going on between pakistan and India, official and unofficial across the border.
