PM Modi arrives in Afghanistan, inaugurates Salma Dam along with Ashraf Ghani

The Afghan-India Friendship Dam, also known as Salma Dam, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani in Herat province on Saturday, has been executed and implemented by WAPCOS Ltd, a government of India undertaking under the ministry of water resources.

The dam is a multi-purpose project planned for generating 42 MW of power, irrigating 75,000 hectares of land, water supply and other benefits to the people of Afghanistan.

The Salma Dam is a project undertaken by the government of India on Chist-e-Sharif river in Herat province of Afghanistan.

'Thank you India,' say delighted Afghans

Grateful residents of the area went to the Indian consulate there to express gratitude to the Indian officials for the key role played by the country in the reconstruction of Afghanistan.

Many Afghans expressed thanks on Twitter to India for its reconstruction help.

Local musicians sang Indian songs, including Bollywood number "Yamma Yamma", and also presented flowers to workers of the consulate.

India is spending $300 million on the dam project, expected to produce 42 MW of electricity and water nearly 80,000 hectares of farmland.

they are completely opposite personalities, the PM in previous regime was an introvert bureaucrat who got lucky to be PM, where as Modi thrives on being in public eye. You are comparing a standup comedian to a backroom office dude.

The project has been funded by INDIA executed and implemented by WAPCOS Ltd, a government of India undertaking under ministry of water resources, river development and Ganga Rejuvenation and Afghan Engineers were part of the project.
