MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to implement any construction projects and to set up joint ventures in Pakistan, Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said as he met with the Pakistani parliamentary delegation led by Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani in Minsk on 2 February, BelTA has learned. Belarus is ready to implement turnkey projects to build industrial, civil, agricultural, and power generating facilities. Special attention is given to industrial cooperation projects. In the field of industrial cooperation, Belarus can supply ready-made tractors, automobile and other vehicles and to consider options for setting up assembly plants in Pakistan. In view of the special importance of the agricultural sector for the economy of Pakistan, Belarus is willing to share modern technologies in production, storage and processing of agricultural production. “Our country occupies a strategically important position in Europe, is located on the border of the European Union and is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union which opens up new prospects for investors,” Andrei Kobyakov said. According to the Prime Minister, today there are the opportunities for Pakistani companies to boost their presence in Belarus through joint ventures. Belarus can become a springboard for Pakistani companies who would like to promote their products to the EU countries and a gateway to a more than 180-million-strong market of the Eurasian Economic Union. “Belarus and Pakistan can also establish close cooperation with third countries, participate jointly in large-scale projects in which our countries could fully implement the existing economic potential. In this regard, the involvement of Belarusian industrial enterprises and construction enterprises in the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor projects will fill the bilateral relations with great economic content,” the Belarusian Prime Minister said. Belarus considers Pakistan as an important and promising partner in South Asia. “The two countries are developing a full active political dialogue, as evidenced by the intensive exchange of visits at the highest and high levels over the past two years and the agreements the countries have signed in various fields. Belarus and Pakistan have similar positions on key issues on the international agenda,” Andrei Kobyakov said. By 2020 Belarus and Pakistan are set to pass a $1 billion mark in bilateral trade, and the Belarusian government already got down to work on achieving this goal. “The level of political relations between our countries, their strategic nature can generate growth across key areas of our interaction: be it industry, agriculture, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and humanitarian cooperation,” the Belarusian Prime Minister believes. “Yet, it takes a lot of time and effort for Belarusian brands who are making their way in to the Pakistani market to find a reliable and interested partner. Therefore, your recommendations are important for us. We, in turn, invite the Pakistani business to Belarus,” he added. Andrei Kobyakov expressed confidence that with joint efforts the two countries will be able to take their relations onto a qualitatively new level. Mian Raza Rabbani noted that Belarus and Pakistan needed little time to establish warm and close relations. The two countries have so far signed nearly 70 agreements and memorandums, which emphasizes a high level of the Belarusian-Pakistani cooperation.
