A modern garbage treatment plant will be set up for producing ethanol and jet fuel in the district like the developed countries.

The construction work of the plant will begin in the middle of the next year.

To this effect, Sylhet City Corporation signed an agreement with Eco World Wide Bangladesh.

The project work would cost around
TkUS$ 40 billion.

Mostak Ahmad, director of Eco World Wide, said the waste treatment machine for producing ethanol will be the first of its type in Asia.

When asked about the process, Mostak said at first the wastes would get separated into different types through the machine.

Then after processing in three separate stages, ethanol would be produced.

“Primarily, we would produce bio-ethanol and then the costly jet fuel,” Mostak said, adding that it would not pollute the environment as the garbage treatment process would not give out any bad ordure.

Bangladesh would be able to save huge foreign currencies form ethanol and jet fuel produced this way.

. . . .
How do you get ethanol out of garbage?

Municipal solid waste and then heating it to 400° C (750° F). The waste gives off a gas that includes hydrogen and carbon monoxide, which are trapped while carbon dioxide and other impurities are filtered out. The pure gas is then run over a catalyst, which converts it into methanol. The methanol can then be converted into ethanol or other chemical feedstocks. One of the biggest advantages of the technology is that it has significantly lower carbon dioxide emissions compared to making ethanol from corn

It is basically alcohol. For some other details please click the link below:

Chemical formula for ethanol

Ethanol or ethyl alcohol is commonly called alcohol. Ethanol in its pure state is a colorless flammable liquid which is completely miscible with water. Ethanol is made from the fermentation of sugars from agricultural crops such as 1. barley used to make beer or 2. grapes used to make wine. The process of distillation is used to concentrate the ethanol to around 95% which is the maximum that can be achieved by this process. Molecular sieves are used to produce 100% ethanol.

Ethanol produced from crops or biomass material is known as bioethanol. Ethanol may also be produced by the hydration of ethylene gas from the petroleum industry.

The chemical formula for ethanol is CH3CH2OH or C2H5OH (condensed structural formulas)

The molecular formula for ethanol is C2H6O and its molar mass is 46.068 g/mol.

Pure ethanol is used as solvent for esters, medicines, solvent based paints and perfumes. It is also used as a cleaning product (methylated spirits).

Well its not commercial economical to make ethanol from garbage because there will be lots of pollutant byproduct. In west they make ethanol from biomass like maize and sugarcane. and these ethanol (bio-fuel) is something like 10-30 euro cent cheaper to consumer than normal diesel. But it make saving for large industries using these biofuel.

I think, there has been improvement in technology to produce ethanol from garbage. Please read the excerpts below that I copied and pasted from an Internet article.

"Transforming garbage into ethanol, a process that has often proven to be difficult and expensive. Ethanol made from garbage is a type of cellulosic biofuel, meaning it comes from cellulose, a non-food plant material. So compared to making ethanol from the starch in corn and grains, making cellulosic biofuels offers some advantages - most notably, it allows for a greater production of ethanol without using food."
