PLA Navy Rear Admiral Yin Zhuo recently told Beijing-based Sina Military Network that China’s military strategic principle of active defense will not have different operational platforms change and only powerful long-range aircraft carrier and other combat platforms will be required not just to protect its interests in South China Seas but other offshore areas as well.

China is currently under construction in Dalian, Liaoning conventionally powered aircraft carrier independent design, the displacement of about 50,000 tons, can carry-made J-15 aircraft and other models based aircraft, fixed-wing aircraft flying leaps to the sliding mode.

Chinese navy in its candid admission in past had admitted that its focus continues to be on the Pacific and not in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) but IOR region will be in focus when China has enough aircraft carriers which will be pressed into service to protect the Sea Lanes of Communications (SLOCS) along the Indian Ocean.

Zhuo also said that in near future it will deploy aircraft carriers in IOR also to protect overseas Chinese Investments to maintain sustained economic development in China, from countries where it has heavily invested like Afghanistan, Pakistan to African countries facing the Arabian sea.

In disguise of Anti-privacy missions, PLAN has been sending its warships in IOR for some time and lately has even deployed Conventional and Nuclear submarines for patrolling in Indian ocean which traditionally has been considered India’s backyard and also started work on, deep-sea Gwadar Port in Pakistan which will be used to replenish Chinese naval warships and Carrier Battlegroup (CBGs) in near future .

The Chinese are at least a decade away from having the ability to deploy a CBG in the IOR.

The Chinese are most welcome! But they should remember that the IOR is not the South China Sea where they can bully smaller littoral nations at will. That won't happen here! The IOR is a different ball game altogether with the IN dominating the ocean by the time the PLAAN has the wherewithal and capability to deploy their CBGs here.
