Heritage under attack: PkMAP says it views Ziarat Residency as a ‘symbol of slavery’

While the entire nation is in a state of shock over the destruction of the Jinnah’s Residency in Ziarat, a key coalition partner in the Balochistan government calls it a ‘symbol of slavery’.

The residence of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah at the idyllic hill station of Ziarat, which was considered a national heritage, was razed to the ground in a bomb attack claimed by an outlawed Baloch separatist group, Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) early Saturday.

“The wooden house at Ziarat was a symbol of slavery as it was built for the colonial British officer Sir Robert Groves Sandeman who ruled Balochistan until his death in 1892,” Akram Shah, the general secretary of Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), told The Express Tribune.

“The house always reminded the Baloch and Pashtuns of the long period when they were the slaves of British Empire in Indian subcontinent,” Shah added. “For us, it’s no more than the house of the then agent to the governor general [of India], Sir Sandeman.”

Shah’s shocking statement prompted scathing criticism from a fellow politician from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

“Akram Shah has hurt the feelings of millions of patriotic people in Balochistan and of those who had an emotional attachment with the historic building [Ziarat residency},” Anwarul Haq Kakar told The Express Tribune. “The PkMAP leader should behave like a responsible politician and not forget that his party is a coalition partner in the Balochistan government.”

Kakar said that the terrorists who destroyed the ‘symbol of the federation in Balochistan’ deserved a befitting reply from the entire nation,
particularly from the peace-loving people of the province.

PkMAP’s Akram Shah was also unhappy with the visit to Ziarat by two federal ministers — Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Pervaiz Rashid. The ministers should have instead attended the funeral of the victims of Saturday’s attacks in Quetta claimed by the banned sectarian extremist group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi

I mean if the going by that logic we should destroy Pakistan Railways too since it was founded by Birtish Raj, We should also abolish CSS system because it was introduced by British Raj. Akram shah could be more careful about it, of course everybody is free to have his own views but also keep other's views in perspective.

How silly.

Even the Canals, rail & telegraph lines were laid by the British.

Why dont they destroy them too after all they too are a legacy of the British ?

The Governors House in Lahore and many similar building too need to be destroyed - there are no limits to stupidity .

This so called PKMAP guy sounds like moroon. The country is soaking the bloodshed through sectarian, separatists, TTP/Al-Qaida terrorists and what he has to say. At a time when Forces need back of the nation to fight the terrorists, this is what he is saying.

Instead of attacking the terrorists his mouth is spitting this.

my question to this douchebag is ,, what if there R no assemblies to resign from in 2-3 years?

I can understand where his views are coming from but at the same time it can be seen as a symbol of empowerment (i.e. in the end it was a Pakistani who took back the property and lived in the house).

However, these statements were really stupid especially in light of circumstances.

At the end of the day it was Jinnah's house no one remembers or gives a damn about the British colonial officer that lived in it before. When people came to visit the house they did so because Jinnah lived there.

Well, if he is Anti-Jinnah or ideology of Pakistan, how will he best divert attention from this issue, or instead of condemning the attack, would condone it?

Would he says, yes, it was good that Jinnah's house is burnt. I am happy. This is would only be the last step and this would place him in same line as of BLA.

Why do you want him hanged or gagged? He is a member of the legislative assembly of Balochistan. His statements are privileged. Start off by gagging him or hanging him and soon it will spread to gagging and hanging other politicians whose statements are unpopular to Pakistanis. Get in touch with democracy and let people speak their minds.

It was an unnecessary statement for which he may get disappear forever .
