People Are Apparently Trying To Free A Murderer Because He’s ‘Too Cute’

I stand corrected he faced 2 counts of first degree vehicular manslaughter, the max sentence is 15 years, he got 9 years for the mom and 15 years for the baby I believe. If it was deemed accidental then it would be 2nd/3rd degree manslaughter (someone well versed in the law can correct me on this)

If it was classified as a homicide then the max sentence will be anywhere between life and the death penalty.
Are you saying he intentionally rammed down the victims? Only that would justify a 24 year sentence.

No sir, the intention is what (and this is from my understanding from the news articles) separated it from a first degree homicide charge to third degree.

"Third-degree murder, also known as manslaughter, is a homicide committed without intent to kill though they may have intended to cause harm. Categories of manslaughter include when a person commits a crime that unintentionally results in another person's death or when the death results from criminal negligence."

Got it sir. Thank you for explaining the legal technicalities.

However, in layman terms, it is death due to criminal negligence, but unintentional. If that gives someone 24 years, thats quite harsh I believe.
Again, I do not care about this individual, but in general commenting if such a long prison sentence for unintentional death is proportional punishment.

It was intentional the moment he decided to become reckless with his vehicle. Chances that he would kill or cause serious damage became very high.

He intended to cause harm [decided to race], but did not intend to kill, so his charge [and conviction] is third degree murder, also called manslaughter.

Keeping aside the cuteness factor, 24 years for accidental death seems extreme.
Something like 5-7 years but a life time ban on driving would be feasible.
racing with ford mustang in street is not accidental

he intentionally used reckless action that lead to death of two people , it was not his first offence he had a track record of such offence . and his reckless action was clearly against the law
