Pentagon suspends F-35 deliveries over Chinese alloy in magnet

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon has temporarily halted deliveries of F-35 fighters following the discovery that the raw materials used for a magnet in the plane were produced in China.
In a release Wednesday, Lockheed Martin said a magnet in the F-35′s Honeywell-made turbomachine — an engine component that provides power to its engine-mounted starter/generator — was recently discovered to have been made with cobalt and samarium alloy that came from China.

Watch, pentagon will come out with exemption for this law in a few days after realizing only China has the production capability to produce these magnets.

Heard about something like that 10 - 15 years ago (not sure about F-35, but certainly about American fighters using China-made magnet). I think it is kind of everyone-know secret. They will talk about this issue when necessary.

This is an image, not a technical, issue. When we built the SR-71, we needed titanium, and the Soviet Union had the most available at the shortest time, so the CIA set up several shell companies and bought Soviet titanium for the program.

When America depends on other country' high technology, like 5 axis CNC machine for precision part, or magnet from China, or special steel from Russia, or rocket engine from Ukraine, or chip from Taiwan, it is explained that America can do, but they do not want to make such normal-technology piece and want to leave those works to their backward vassals like Germany or Japan or Taiwan, or to their enemies China or Russia.

But if China imports CS bolts and nuts for their equipment from the US, it is because China is not capable to manufacture such very high tech, marvel piece of steel.
