Japan is a signatory of the NPT. Japan is considered a a de facto nuclear state since we have the imminent ability to produce nuclear weapons and we already have the deliver mechanisms.

While there are currently no known plans in Japan to produce nuclear weapons, it has been argued Japan has the technology, raw materials, and the capital to produce nuclear weapons within one year if necessary, and many analysts consider it a de dacto nuclear state for this reason. For this reason Japan is often said to be a "screwdriver's turn" away from possessing nuclear weapons, or to possess a "bomb in the basement".

In as less as 6 months Japan can produce a strategic weapon. With enough material to produce over 1000 warheads, enough to glass the entire planet.

But we won't. Simply because we value peace and are NPT members. I hope this remains so.

I am , as a Japanese National and Japanese Citizen, abhorred by the way the United States' NSA spying program repetitiously violates the rights of Americans and foreigners , the violation of civil rights, and freedom from spying. The revelations seen by the Snowden episode really changed , significantly changed my perspective in America's spying programs. The country is slowly becoming a police state, unfortunately.

On a second note, the unilateral action of using drones to strike suspects is just beyond my comprehension now. I remember today hearing reports of how US drones 'accidentally' killing a US citizen and an Italian citizen who were captives by Al Qaeda in the region between Afghanistan and Pakistan. And now where is the justice for those innocent people?

I always find it intriguing how the United States an condemn a country like China for human rights abuses, yet with the same tongue, pardon and overlook its own gross violation of human rights with their unilateral drone strike campaign, as well as their unconstitutional spying of citizens in the United States and abroad.

You are right but when national interest warrants it, other values become secondary. When Japan shall realize that its non nuclear Weapon state status hinders its Negotiation power, Japan shall have to go declared nuclear power way. You know, we exercise restrain for years but ultimately the environment in neighborhood forced us to Go nuclear. Japan is a highly developed country with well developed in nuclear field. It may declare itself to be a nuclear power any time. I believe that that time is not too far.

Given the past record of America on finding weapons of mass destruction, I am not surprised the US just discovered that Israel has the Bomb.
