Rana, Malik get one-year bans, Younis and Yousuf axed from teams

The PCB has handed out the most comprehensive set of punishments to national players in recent memory, banning a number of senior players and implementing heavy fines on others on the recommendations of an inquiry committee formed to look into Pakistan's disastrous tour to Australia. The biggest and most unexpected action is the implementation, in effect, of life bans on Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan, a wholly unexpected development. Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan have been banned for a year and the Akmal brothers and Shahid Afridi will be put on probation for six months and have been fined between Rs 2-3 million for various misdemeanours.

Yousuf and Younis, Pakistan's two seniormost current players, will not play for Pakistan again but will be eligible for county and domestic cricket.

The six-man committee completed its report last week and sent it to Ijaz Butt. The chairman held a meeting with the selection committee on Monday in which he briefed them on the contents of the inquiry committee's report. He warned the selectors - now headed by Mohsin Khan - that he had "shocking news" for them and proceeded to inform them of the details of the report.

I met Muhammad Yousaf and Rao Iftikhar Anjum when they were here.

Sad to hear about Yousaf but i am happy with Younis.

.
Finally! They do something. I'm quite thrilled about Yousuf actually. The guy gets on my nerves. He's too defensive, and a HUGE liability in the field, not to mention the running.

Hopefully the others will get their act together and start playing proper cricket.

Hope 2010 is a great year for Pakistan Cricket! :pakistan:

PCB imposes lifetime ban on Yousuf and Younis

NEW DELHI: Taking action on the players' poor performance on the recent Australian tour, Pakistan Cricket Board imposed life bans on former captains Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan.

Another former captain Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved were banned for a year and all-rounder Shahid Afridi has been fined for involvement in ball tampering.

The probe was carried out after open rebellion by several players during the Australian tour.

Both brothers Kamran and Umar Akmal have been put on probation for six months.

Earlier, the PCB inquiry committee had recommended disciplinary action against five players including former captain Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi.

The captain, coach and the manager on the Australian tour had reported Malik and Rana for misbehavior and not cooperating with the management.

He said the inquiry committee had also advised the Board to make no compromise on discipline and not select any player who was found guilty of violating the code of conduct.

.
There should be strong accountability for the players ... This will give out a strong message to the junior and new coming players . Further more some of the management staff of the PCB should also be axed ..!

The PCB has struck against its players with a venom unseen in recent memory, carrying out the deepest cull of a senior cricket team in many years, banning and fining seven of its top players after the side's disastrous, winless tour of Australia. The board effectively banned Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf from playing for Pakistan in any format, while handing out one-year bans to Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan. Shahid Afridi and the Akmal brothers were fined Rs2-3 million for various misdemeanours and put on six-month probations.

Action had been expected once details of the inquiry committee's report recommendations were leaked in the press on Monday and Ijaz Butt, chairman PCB, had followed it up by saying "more than significant action" would be taken against players. While the punishments for Malik, Rana, Afridi and the Akmal brothers were expected, the action against Yousuf and Younis has caught most people off-guard.

"Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan, keeping in view their infighting which resulted in bringing down the whole team, their attitude has a trickledown effect which is a bad influence for the whole team, should not be part of national team in any format," said a board statement.

The PCB has stopped short of calling the punishment a life ban. "They will not be part of any Pakistan team in any format from here on," Taffazul Rizvi, the board's legal advisor told Cricinfo. "A life ban means they cannot play domestic cricket or any other similar cricket, but we are not stopping them from that. They can play domestic cricket or county cricket here and abroad."

Kamran and Umar Akmal were fined Rs 3 and 2 million respectively [$35,000 and $24,000] presumably for their part in the run-up to the final Test in Hobart, when Kamran repeatedly and publicly insisted he would be picked despite a PCB release stating the opposite, and Umar allegedly feigned an injury and threatened to not play.

Afridi was fined Rs 3 million and put on six months' probation for his ball-biting incident while captaining the side in the last ODI in Perth, for which he has already been punished by the ICC. The PCB release called it a "shameful act" that "has brought the game and country into disrepute".

The six-man committee completed its report last week and sent it to Ijaz Butt. The chairman held a meeting with the selection committee on Monday in which he briefed them on the contents of the inquiry committee's report. Duo banned in PCB crackdown
PCB hand out bans and fines in response to Aussie debacle

A furious Pakistan Cricket Board has handed out indefinite bans from the national team on Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan, and also banned Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved for a year after the team's performance in Australia.

An inquiry into the shockingly bad performance Down Under led to PCB chairman Ijaz Butt handing out the sanctions in a stunning crackdown on player indiscipline.

Along with the suspensions, brothers Kamran and Umar Akmal were put on probation for six months and also fined, while one-day skipper Shahid Afridi was also fined for biting the cricket ball.

Yousuf led the disastrous tour of Australia, while Younis is a former skipper of the national team and they are the two most senior players in the squad.

However, a review of the tour has led to the pair effectively having their international careers ended by the PCB, barring a remarkable turnaround, although they can still play in domestic cricket.

Pakistan failed to win a match on their trip to Australia, while infighting also marred the tour with several rows between the players, but the PCB has come down hardest on Younis and Yousuf.

"Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan, keeping in view their infighting which resulted in bringing down the whole team, their attitude has a trickledown effect which is a bad influence for the whole team, should not be part of national team in any format," said a PCB statement.

Afridi was fined three million rupees for his ball tampering saga, which the PCB called a "shameful act that has brought the game and country into disrepute".

Along with their one-year bans from all forms of international cricket, Malik and Naved were also fined two million rupees, wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal was fined three million rupees and his younger brother Umar two million.

Shocking that the two players have been banned for life. They are the two best batsmen the Pakistan team has and Yousuf was I think the leading batsman in international cricket last year or so. There is no doubt that Yousuf is an extremely talented batsman. Liability in the field, yes, but there are many who are like that.

Younis Khan has been trying to use his stature as a batsman to dictate terms with the PCB. Thats my impression. He was sulking far too often and then threatening to quite his captaincy then back and off again. It was harmful for the side.

But the punishment being ban for like is perhaps too strict and unwarranted. You can leave them out of the international team till they come back to the senses. Why ban for life? I am sure there will be an outcry and the bans will be revoked.

Right now, who will be the captain? If Shoaib, Shahid and all have been reprimanded, then will the PCB install one of those as captains? If not them, then who? Lots of things the PCB has to think about. I think they would just wish an Imran Khan and a Javed Miandad came along for them.

.
PCB internal politics is responsible for the down fall of Pakistani cricket not the players.

Lets have equal quota for all 4 provinces and Azad Kashmir instead of favouring blue eyed by some vested interests

.
I think it has become routine for the PCB first banning the players and gradually reducing the ban or no Ban:lol:

Banning two of the best players in not fair at all. Waiting for the report from the PCB on the ban.
