I don't think many ex judicial official would want to become CEC, after how Imran pulls shalwar of everyone who doesn't do what he pleases. We need to have a CEC fast before the deadline

I think Imran will be very happy about Shujat Pasha being CEC. Even Asma Jehangir says that (In a joke :)

ISLAMABAD: Justice (r) Tassaduq Jillani has declined from being a nominee as the next chief election commissioner (CEC), DawnNews reported.

Sources said that Jillani declined from being nominated due to the controversy surrounding the post.

Jillani and Justice (r) Tariq Pervez Khan had emerged as the most likely contenders for the office of CEC.

The two retired judges topped the list of five candidates whose names came under discussion at a meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Ahmed Shah.

Jillani was a front runner for the office of the CEC and has already served as an acting CEC from August 17 to November 30, 2013.

He assumed the office of the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) in December 2013 after the retirement of Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

Justice Jillani retired as CJP in July this year.

It happening first time in Pakistan's history that ex-CJP's are declining to hold top most position as CEC even after so many contestants were withdrawn by parties involved themselves. I get even ex-CJP's are aware of the fact that true justice in elections can never be delivered through current corrupt setup with heavy involvement of establishment and bureaucracy. Maybe that's the main reason for their continuous refusal to chair CEC.
People of Pakistan can no longer be lured into accepting election results without proper audit and since IK made last elections a controversial national issue, no ex-CJP wants to take this huge responsibility on their shoulders to deliver free and fair elections!

Norway kay munnay, these high profile judges are declining this post because they have spent all their lives working for the judiciary, they have dedicated all their lives to strengthen the judicial system and provide justice. Sadly at the end of their career, they wouldnt jeopardize their whole life which they spent with utmost respect and reputation. They know there is a monkey in town called Niazi who under the influence of drugs, would blame every living thing as long as he is not worshiped.
