Srinagar: It is Kashmiris versus Kashmiri Pandits as Pandit leaders revive their demands for an exclusive homeland within the Valley.

"Government should identify land, distribute it among returnees and give cash. We need exclusive zones which are protected and which we will ourselves protect," says Roshan Lal Raina, Chairman, Voice of Kashmir.

Dr Agnishekhar, leader of Panun Kashmir, wants zones which enjoy Union territory status, de-linked from the state government.

"We don't approve of movement of aazadi, merger with Pakistan, autonomy. We want a separate location to be earmarked under central administered set-up. We want a Union Territory status with full Indian constitutional guarantees. The area should be to the North and East of river Jehlum," he says.

However, Kashmiri religious and separatist leaders call the Panun homeland formula a divisive one. "We should not erect a wall as is the case with Israel and Palestine," opines Yasin Malik, JKLF Chairman.

"Panun is a Home Ministry funded organisation. Majority of Kashmiri Pandits don't approve of homeland. I don't want Pandits to come and live in an atmosphere of hate and fear. We want them to live in composite culture," he adds.

Grand Mufti Bashir-ud-din Ahmad too is opposed to the idea. "We welcome the return of the Kashmiri Pandits. We will be happy if they come but if their demand of a separate homeland is a conspiracy, we will oppose it strongly," he says.

Youngsters in both Kashmir and Jammu regions have varying views.

Fakira, a student in Srinagar says, "Why are you forgetting that Kashmiri Pandits are not the only minorities in Kashmir. Tomorrow the Sikhs will come up and say we want this area under Sikhs only. This will create more problems. we know Kashmir is not a peaceful state yet."

Nitin, another student, from Jammu says, "Government makes several formulas, raises expectations but works on nothing. On the ground no difference is made. Issues of Konsar Nag, Amarnath yatra and other internal issues has given the thinking that returning is not possible."

Recently the Omar government stopped Pandits from a yatra to Konsar Nag lake citing environmental damage, adding to the distrust and friction.

More than two decades after parting ways, the mistrust has grown so deep that it will take years and many confidence building measures for the Muslims and Pandits to come together.

.
Know one welcomes kashmiri pandits those are for cameras . Abolition of 370 and settlement of Indians from other region is the only way . if 99% Muslim population in Kashmir cannot takw in local Hindus shows their secular values.

. .
Absolute lie.

And but for exceptions the mistrust between Pandits, Sikh, Buddhists, Shia and other Kashmiri Muslims can not be bridged.

They were plenty of non-pandit hindus who were forced out of the valley as well.

this is need of the hour.
The Pandits should armed to teeth to be able to defend themselves and protection must be provided.

Sure, go for it.
Muslim already have guns and bombs in Kashmir.
Having Dalits and Socialists and shias protecting their brother pandits would be very helpful ;)

we need to use a combination of the Han solution and some Israeli tactics to resettle our people in the valley.

and i must say that the kashmiri pandits must see that the indian establishment has been using them ( misusing ) just so that kashmir remains a flash-point.

is there any legitimate reason for kashmiri pandit refugees to be living in squalid camps in delhi[1] and the indian government not creating proper colonies for them like has been done for dalai lama's tibetans :

Refugee-camp.jpg

The next day, being a holiday, I decided to pay a visit to this refugee camp. It was a sight of dust and litter. There was a rabble of bright colored tents put together forming a small colony. The outskirts of this low-lying colony were covered with heaps of garbage and dust. There were several puddles of accumulated drain water. I had never seen a place as disoriented as this, it had even left the notional constitution of “slum” far behind. With no toilets and bathrooms in the colony, except two or three cubic shelters, where the residents had dug out holes to use, it was an appalling sight.
I met Armaan at this refugee camp, the boy who I had first encountered at a café in Connaught Place, he looked better with his hair neatly combed and parted sideways. He greeted me with his dulcet smile and invited me to a narrow passage through a tent. I was amazed to find the interiors of the tent immaculately maintained; the floor was covered with a collage of torn, bright colored carpets. With not much furniture around, the place was empty except two small beds in different compartments of the tent and a small chest. There was a small reserved kitchen area with a stove and a few utensils neatly lined up on the elevated floor, along with 4-5 canisters of stored grains and other eatables.
They offered me tea while we sat down to chat. There were two families living in a single compartmentalized tent. Since the men of the respective families had gone back to Kashmir to continue with their work and take care of the house and property, women along with children had little resources at hand to manage their day to day expenses. While I was conversing with Armaan’s mother, a woman in a bright pink sweater with a hint of rose on her cheeks and sea-green eyes entered the tent, introducing herself as Armaan’s elder sister. I asked her about Armaan’s disrupted education, to which she explained that they run out of choices when it comes to thinking about the educational future of hundreds of children like Armaan who were living at the colony or the threats which they receive back home, more than education, it is a matter of life and death which needs to be addressed.

the Han solution is how China keeps Tibet, flood the local population with your own people and give them preferential treatment.

Israeli west bank tactics, settlements, segregated road access, big military presence to guard our people.
