The cabinet is expected to approve a series of measures on Sunday that would make it harder for Palestinians to acquire permanent residency or citizenship in Israel. The most notable would require Palestinians to declare their loyalty to "a Jewish and democratic state" before being granted Israeli citizenship.

The measures will primarily affect Palestinian men and women who marry Israeli citizens and then seek citizenship on the basis of family reunification.

Adalah - the Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel yesterday protested the proposed wording of the loyalty declaration. In a written statement, the group said "it views the conditioning of entry into Israel on a declaration of loyalty to a Jewish and democratic state, and of respect for the laws of the state, very gravely, because it requires all non-Jews to identify with Zionism and imposes a political ideology and loyalty to the principles of Judaism and Zionism."

The other restrictions to be imposed on Palestinians wishing to gain residency or citizenship are not actually new; they are part of a law enacted in 2005, originally for one year, that has since been renewed annually. On Sunday, however, the cabinet is expected to approve its extension for yet another year.

One restriction in that law bars Palestinians married to Israelis from joining their families here before the Interior Ministry agrees to their right to live in Israel. The law also denies residency rights to any foreign spouse or his children if he is married to other women in addition to his Israeli wife.

Finally, it requires Palestinians who seek citizenship to provide financial guarantees and prove that they have a home in Israel.

The explanatory notes accompanying the proposed restrictions state that their purpose is to make it harder for Palestinian terrorist groups to recruit Palestinians who have acquired Israeli citizenship to carry out attacks.

"An examination of the security reality since the outbreak of armed confrontation between Israel and the Palestinians revealed growing involvement by Palestinians who took advantage of their status in Israel, received on the basis of their family reunification process with Israelis, to become involved in terrorism and abet suicide bombing attacks," the notes said.

"The Israeli identity cards granted to [these] Palestinians provided them with freedom of movement between Israel and the [Palestinian] Authority and thus made them into the terrorist organizations' preferred population for carrying out hostile actions in general and inside Israel in particular."

A separate section of the proposed regulations deals with asylum seekers, and would require them to file their asylum applications within a year of entering Israel. Until now, an asylum seeker could file his application at any time. The main purpose of this change is to prevent legal foreign workers from filing asylum applications after their work visas expire, thereby gaining additional time here.

it really doesn't matter what Terrorist state of Israel and its terrorist army does.... the fact is that InshaALLAH the holy land will be again in the control of Muslims very soon and Israeli terrorists will get their due for all the attrocitites they have done and are doing on Palestinians...

All the muslims have to do here is to become A True Muslim and keep on the struggle against the enemies of Islam.. Insha Allah we will get success very soon .

An excellent nonsensical solution to a very complex problem. Praying 5 Times a day and fasting will definitely solve the middle east problem..

An excellent nonsensical solution to a very complex problem. Praying 5 Times a day and fasting will definitely solve the middle east problem..

brother you keep on praying and fasting only and try to find a solution in this... but the fact is that, If these two were enough to win the war then Holy Prophet (SA) would have not fought any of the war.. He and His companions (RA) would have just prayed and fasted at the time of war and they would have won it...

No Muslim (including Me ) is against it that prayer and fasting is important and have solution of many things. but in the case when our brothers and sisters are being killed in Palestine, its undoubtedly not enough to win over Israeli terrorists.

There should be armed action against them and, believe me or not , Jihad against Israelis will only end when the state of Israel will be destroyed by Imam Al Mahdi and Hazrat Isa (AS) because the signs of their arrival in the hadiths are fulfilled to a great extent and many Islamic Scholars who have studied the signs of the arrivals of Imam Al Mahdi , Dajjal and Hazrat Isa (AS) , have declared that we are living in their age and their arrival is very near....

So if you are thinking of a peaceful solution to the Issue of Palestine, then this is definitely not going to happen because Israel have to make its state powerful so that Dajjal (the False Messiah) may come and rule from Israel .

so only an armed action can finish the problem of Israel in the middle east . but this destruction of Israel will only take place after arrival of Hazrat Isa (AS). So in the meantime Israeli terrorist will keep on killing our brothers and sisters in the same way they are doing, and are not going to stop no matter whatever peace negotiations the world present to them.. If you don't believe this then keep on praying for peace (for which i also pray) . but this peace will not come in middle east. Even if you don't Believe me now, then wait and see what this terrorist state will do in near future to muslim countries around it.....

And at that time the Governments of countries like USA, UK ,etc who talks about finishing terrorism , but are the biggest supporters of the terrorist state of Israel , will step aside and will be watching the massacre of Muslims in middle east, as if they are watching a movie.

At that time we muslims will realise that we should have declared Jihad against Israel very early, but that would be really late.

Brother , I Alhamdulillah also Pray five times and day and fast in the month of Ramadan, but Allah and Holy Prophet (SA) have never said that these two are the solution to all things. In fact they have made Jihad Obligatory in the case when enemies are killing our brother Muslims anywhere in the world. So in the case of Israel, Jihad is Obligatory on every Muslim and at least those who are not directly involved in Jihad against them should at least pray for the success of the soldiers of Islam.

So if you say my views are senseless, literally I don't care about it because what you think of me is not at all important for me, because I have said what Islam says to do when enemies are killing Muslims and we are unable to find any solution , other than to declare Jihad against them. this same is the case with Israel...

The issue with Palestine is that it has never existed before. I understand the clash between Judaism and Islam as it is very apparent here but the whole conflict has been confused and derailed by calls for a "Palestinian" state and Palestinian nationhood, a notion that has never existed and only exists to counter Israeli/Jewish claims to the land. Before weren't the lands part of the Ottoman empire? Did they have a separate name for the inhabitants of this area? I'm pretty sure they were just known as Arabs and not specifically Palestinian. This is the part I don't understand maybe someone can help me. Why Islam lost their Holy Lands to Palestinian terrorism and hijacking the issue with calls of nationhood that are products of false indoctrination and Israeli aggression Part 1 let the debate begin.

Editorial: Foundation of peace - Arab News

It might seem Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas forgot something when he recently put forth only one condition to resume direct peace talks: That Israel accept its 1967 frontier as a baseline for the borders of a Palestinian state.

Abbas did not state the usual prerequisites — the halt of Jewish settlements, that Jerusalem be the capital of the future Palestinian state, the right of return or the return of Palestinian prisoners.

However, the demarcation of pre-1967 borders would serve as the foundation upon which an entire peace agreement would be based on, and from which nearly all the other outstanding issues of the conflict can be settled. Thus, Abbas did not lose the script. His latest comments published Saturday did not in theory leave them out. He was instead zooming in on the one aspect that, if resolved, will have the proverbial domino effect.

Unfortunately, Israeli leaders have repeatedly pledged not to return to the 1967 borders. As late as last October Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would “never ever return to the 1967 borders.”

This constitutes a total negation of the Oslo Accords and subsequent agreements on the basis of which Israel has been negotiating with Palestinians for years. The first article of the Oslo Accords stipulates that UN Resolutions 242 and 338 (calling on Israel to withdraw to the 1967 borders and to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the principle of land for peace) be the basis for the peace process.

While the Israeli government’s position and public consensus rule out returning to the 1967 lines, the international community cannot deny that Palestine’s borders are legally based on those that existed before 1948 when Israel proclaimed itself a state. Without a return to those pre-1967 borders (plus a substantial injection of goodwill from Israel in ensuring unhindered passage between Gaza and the West Bank) no possibility exists of a viable Palestinian state ever emerging. And no goodwill, of course, will be forthcoming. Every Israeli leader has refused to recognize the Palestinians, first as a people and now as a nation. No Israeli or American leader has ever suggested that Israel commit to such recognition.

That is because Israel refuses to demarcate its own future borders. So Hamas is justified in asking whether one can recognize a nation with undefined borders. In fact, Israeli governments have glorified in their refusal to extend the recognition to the Palestinians that they demand from them. What we do know is that no one in the Israeli leadership is talking about a return to Israel’s borders that existed before the 1967 War, or probably anything close to it. It is certainly possible for the Israeli people to agree to accept the 1948 borders, the 1967 borders or any other borders they wish. What is clear is that Palestine has defined borders.

Anyone who follows Palestinian affairs knows that the creation of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders remains a project in process, a dream to be pursued. The materialization of this project, the turning of this dream into fact, is what Palestinians want most.

What is wrong in this? After all, all paths lead to God. If in Pakistan people swear upon Quran despite the presence of minorities why should Palestinians not owe their loyalty whatever Israeli laws are there?

Mutual respect and a united compliance of national law will only bring peace. Terrorism won't get them anywhere.
